Dennis Schroder is a German professional basketball player for the National Basketball Association’s Houston Rockets. In addition, In 2014, he joined the German senior national team.

Early Life, Family & Education

NBA player, Dennis Alfredo was born on September 15, 1993, in Braunschweig, Germany, to his parents Fatou and Axel Schroder.

He grew up skating and playing soccer. Coming from a place where basketball is not prominent, he just became familiar with the sport when he was 11 years old.

Liviu Calin, the head coach of the German National Basketball Team, created a youth program around the same time to lure future prospects.

Dennis’ opinions shifted after his father died in 2009. He chose to play basketball instead. As a result, he began to regularly attend training programs.

Career

Dennis’ professional career began in 2010. He made his debut in the German second division with Phantoms Braunschweig’s feeder team, SG Braunschweig.

In his debut season, he struggled to perform effectively. In his second season, he improved by averaging 17.8 points and 6.7 assists across 23 regular-season games.

After that, he appeared in 30 games for Phantoms Braunschweig, averaging 2.3 points and 0.8 rebounds in 8 minutes a game. His team advanced to the playoffs, where he excelled.

Dennis had a career-high performance in the 2012-13 season, his final season in the German League. This season, he averaged 12 points, 3.2 assists, and 2.5 rebounds in 25 minutes per game.

NBA Career

Dennis Schroder made his NBA debut with the Atlanta Hawks after being selected in the 2013 NBA draft. On July 11, the 6ft 1 in tall athlete officially signed with the Hawks.

However, with Shelvin Mack replacing him in the first season, Schroder did not get enough playing time.

Soon after, he joined Bakersfield Jam in the NBA Development League. He played 49 games with the Hawks in his debut season.

Schroder was a member of the Hawks until the 2018 season, setting multiple records, including a career-high 41 points against the Utah Jazz on March 20, 2018.

In 2018, he joined the Oklahoma City Thunder. He transferred to the Los Angeles Lakers after two seasons as the City Thunder’s sixth man.

He made his Lakers debut on December 22, 2020, against the Los Angeles Clippers. Despite scoring 14 points, 12 rebounds, and 8 assists, they lost the game.

Schroder missed several games during his stint with the Lakers, and his play became uneven. Furthermore, he turned down the club’s offer of $84 million for a four-year contract extension, further raising them.

As a free agent, he signed a one-year contract with the Boston Celtics on August 13, 2021.

National Career

Aside from his club career, Dennis Schroder has represented the German National Team under-18 and under-20 squads.

Schroder made his senior German national basketball team debut against Finland.

Furthermore, he helped Germany reach the Eurobasket 2017 quarterfinals by averaging 23.7 points per game.

Wife & Kids

On July 20, 2019, Dennis Schroder married his fiancée Ellen Ziolo. They began dating in 2017, though, and finally decided to marry.

The couple currently has two children. On February 19, 2019, Ellen gave birth to a son before their marriage. Dennis Schroder Jr. is his given name.

Similarly, their daughter, Imalia Aaliyah, was born in August 2020.
