Jay Gruden

Jay Gruden is a former quarterback and American football coach. From 2014 to 2019, he was the head coach of the Washington Redskins, as well as the offensive coordinator of the Cincinnati Bengals and the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Former quarterback player, Jay Gruden was born on March 4, 1967, in Tiffin, Ohio, in the United States. He is his parents’ second kid. Jim Gruden is his father, while Kathy Gruden is his mother.

Jon Gruden, Jay’s brother, is also a head coach who has worked in several professional football leagues. James Gruden is a radiologist at New York’s Weill Cornell Medical Center.

Concerning the coach’s educational background, he attended George D. Chamberlain High School in Tampa, Florida. He enrolled in the University of Louisville after graduating from high school to pursue a higher education degree.

After joining the Louisville Cardinals football team, he was in the top ten for yards per completion, passing attempts in a season, and completions.

He graduated from college in 1988 after finishing his university degree.

Professional Career

Jay Gruden joined the World League of American Football after a great collegiate career. He joined the Barcelona squad in 1991 and Scotland in 1995.

Jay spent three seasons on the practice squads of the NFL and CFL. Furthermore, as a quarterback in the Arena Football League, Gruden was able to win four ArenaBowl titles.

Coaching Career

After Tampa, Jay Gruden worked as offensive coordinator for the Florida Tuskers in 2009. In 2010, Gruden was also named head coach of the Florida Tuskers.

On February 3, 2011, the former quarterback was also hired as the offensive coordinator for the Cincinnati Bengals. In the same capacity, he also signed a three-year contract with the team.

After three seasons with the Bengals, Gruden was hired as head coach of the Washington Redskins in 2014.

Jay’s contract with the Washington squad was extended for two years after his five-year deal expired. He was, however, sacked from the team in 2019.

The couple has three sons: Jack Gruden, J.J. Gruden, and Joey Gruden. Jay’s boys, like their father, participate in a variety of sports.

J.J., the eldest son, lives in Orlando, Florida. Jeanette Gruden, his lovely wife, is his wife. Similarly, Jay and Sherry became grandparents once their son J.J had his own child.

Joey is a member of the Dayton men’s basketball team. He was also planning to play Division III football after graduating from high school in Ohio. He then transferred to a larger school and walked on with the Flyers.
