Simpson won the Azalea Invitational, the Southern Amateur, and the Dogwood Invitational in 2007. On the other side, he was a member of the American team that won both the Walker Cup and the Arnold Palmer Cup in 2007.

Early Years
Simpson turned pro in June 2008, although he wasn’t immediately eligible to compete on the PGA Tour. He entered the Nationwide Tour as a result, where he twice came in second.

2011
Simpson had three top-25 finishes in the first five tournaments of the 2011 PGA Tour, getting the season off to a strong start.
He next took part in his first major championship at the U.S. Open in June, finishing in a tie for fourteenth place.
He competed in the Open Championship in July and placed in the top 20. On August 21, 2011, Simpson won the Wyndham Championship in North Carolina, marking his first PGA Tour triumph.

His second PGA Tour triumph of the year came in September when he won the Deutsche Bank Championship. His FedEx Cup status rose to the top as a consequence.
Simpson finished in 22nd place during his last FedEx Cup playoff match, dropping to second overall. He later finished second in the McGladrey Classic event in October, climbing to the top spot on the money list.
