Chris Rock rejected an offer to host the 2023 Academy Awards during his Sunday night show at the Arizona Financial Theatre. He joked about an offer in the report.
Chris Rock will not host the 2023 Academy Awards as per the sources. Recently, on Sunday, August 28, he mentioned an offer to host the show.
But in the report, Chris claims that he declined the offer and also joked about it. He said that going back to the stage as a host is similar to returning to the scene of a crime, referencing the murder trial of O.J. Simpson.
In this case, Simpson’s ex-wife’s killing began with her leaving a pair of eyeglasses at an Italian restaurant.
Likewise, he compared his situation to the murder case and also said going back to the Oscars is like asking Nicole Brown Simpson “to go back to the restaurant.”

As per the report from the Arizona Republic, Chris stated during his show at the Arizona Financial Theatre in downtown Phoenix.
He said that he rejected the offer because of the recent incident that happened between him and Will Smith.
At the 2022 Oscars, Will slapped Chris after he joked about Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith. The whole incident took place in front of all the people.

The joke was about Jada’s hair and compared to G.I. Jane but the reason for her bald hair was alopecia.
So, Will didn’t like the joke and he went onto the stage in front of Rock and slapped him in front of the whole crowd.

Further Explanation
Chris Rock hosted the Academy Awards show twice in the years 2005 and 2016. But now he will not host the 2023 academy awards because of the slapping incident.
However, Rock hasn’t responded if he forgives Will or not. But, Smith did apologize to Chris publicly via Instagram as we have talked about this before.
Just after the incident, Will Smith earned his first Oscars nominations. Though, now, he is banned from the show for 10 years.
In addition, Will himself quit the show publicly announcing people before this. In the situation, Chris didn’t say anything to Will after getting slapped.
However, the whole crowd was shocked and they all screamed, “Talk about it.”
Rock further said,
“He’s bigger than me. The state of Nevada would not sanction a fight between me and Will Smith.”

Moreover, he also added that the topic or any discussion about slaps will not be held in the upcoming shows or any other ceremony.
Making all the people clear about the things, Bill explained,
“We want to move forward and to have an Oscars that celebrates cinema. That’s our focus right now.”
Guess there is still bad blood between the two. Hope to see them reunite and move forward from the incident in near future.
