Former Canadian NHL goalie Justin Peters played professionally in ice hockey. He was chosen by the Carolina Hurricanes with pick number 38 overall in the second round of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.
Throughout his career, Peters played in 83 games for the Hurricanes, Washington Capitals, and Arizona Coyotes.
Early Life, Parents, Sibling, Education
In Blyth, Ontario, Canada, on August 30, 1986, Justin Peters was born. He has two brothers, Anthony Peters and Alexandar Peters, and is the family’s oldest child.
Regarding Justin’s parents, not much information has been made public. However, it is safe to assume that his parents were sports fans given the fact that all of his children are professional hockey players.
When Justin was four years old, his parents enrolled him in hockey lessons, and as a result, Justin went on to play professionally.
He was raised idolizing Patrick Roy and the Colorado Avalance, his favorite team. He coveted a spot in the NHL and watched every game.
Other than hockey, Peter also likes to play golf and go fishing. Additionally, he plays golf in the Ainslee Fontaine Memorial Tournament.
Junior Career
With Plymouth and St. Michael’s, Justin Peters played junior ice hockey for four seasons. He amassed a remarkable record of 88-70-16 in 189 games played in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL).
He was the second-most successful goaltender in the OHL with 30 victories, and he was even selected for the 2004 Champions Hockey League (CHL) Top Prospects Game.
Professional Career
Justin Peters began his professional career by signing a contract with the Caroline Hurricanes in 2004.
It was a dream come true for Justin, who had always wanted to play in the NHL, but it didn’t last long. Finally, Justin was given a team assignment with the Hurricanes’ AHL affiliate, the Albany River Rats.
Despite being chosen in the NHL entry draft, Justin started his professional career in 2006–07 with the Albany River Rats of the American Hockey League (AHL).
It’s possible that Justin’s poor league performance was caused in part by his extreme disappointment. Things got worse when Justin was demoted to the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) in 2007-2008.
He was once again promoted to River acts for the 2008–09 season based on his subsequent performance. When Justin was playing for the Albany River Rats, he was once more giving it his all.
But finally, after six years, Justin took his proper place. In 2010, Justin received a call from the Caroline Hurricanes to fill in for one of their injured players.
With the Carolina Hurricanes, Justin made his long-awaited NHL debut on February 6, 2010. A 34-save performance in his first game against the New York Islanders helped his team win 3-1.
Justin considered switching teams rather than extending his deal with the Caroline Hurricanes after it came to an end. For eight seasons, Justin was a member of the Caroline Hurricanes.
After being hired by the Belleville Senators as a goaltending coach, he called it quits on his professional career in 2021.
International Plays
On the Canada roster for the 2014 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship, Justin Peters was added as the 21st player.
Out of the three goalies who registered for the competition, he was one of them.
Justin Peters has joined the Canadian National Hockey Team in preparation for the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea.
Canada qualified for the Winter Olympics based on its standing in the 2015 IIHF World Ranking. Both the Canadian and Czech Republic teams advanced to the quarterfinals following a tie game.
Retirement
The Belleville Senators extended a job offer to Justin Peters for the position of goalie coach on February 5, 2021. For Peters, who was considering retiring, the offer appeared to be the perfect opportunity.
He claimed that the COVID pandemic played a significant role in his decision. He had originally intended to retire following the 2020–21 season, but the pandemic forced the postponement of the games.
Peter wanted to pursue other interests because he thought his hockey career might be in jeopardy. Peters was also constantly thinking about coaching as his retirement drew near.
Peters expressed his excitement about taking on the role of coach. He says this is a great chance for him to impart to the other players his years of experience and knowledge.
