Early Life, Family & Education

Melanie Shamet, his proud mother, gave birth to Landry Shamet on March 13, 1997, in Kansas City, Missouri.

Landry’s mother became pregnant without intending to. Landry and his mother were never left alone, though they were fatherless.

Despite the fact that Landry’s mother and father had never discussed his father, she came across him one day while browsing Facebook and felt compelled to contact him and give him a chance.

Landry still keeps a small group of friends, and he only really needs his family and close friends nearby.

He continued by saying:

“They’ve done a wonderful job filling that void, My mom and I get along well. We went through some … as every family does, You go through some tough situations. There’s no father in this scenario. However, I wasn’t longing for my dad.”

Park Hill High School in Kansas City is where Landry received his education. He started playing basketball when he was just two years old, and even as a high school student, he kept playing and representing his school’s basketball team.

At the school, he was coached by David Garrison. According to his coach, Landry had mastered the art of converting self-criticism into inspiration.

Furthermore, Landry became well-known at his school when Shamet took charge of a game that college coaches attended to watch Kevin Puryear, a highly regarded forward from the opposing team. This occurred in Landry’s junior year.

His outstanding game performance drew the attention of many elite institutions. Landry made the decision to enroll at Wichita State University in Wichita, Kansas, in order to pursue higher education.

College Career

Due to a foot injury, Landry only participated in three games as a freshman after enrolling at Wichita State University.

Even though Shamet only participated in three games, he quickly established himself as the best freshman point guard in the country and quickly established himself as the point guard for the Wichita State Shockers in his sophomore season.

During his rookie year, he received the MVC Freshman of the Year and First Team All-Conference honors.

Shamet was one of two sophomores to make the 2018 Wooden Award Midseason Top 25 list.

He scored a career-high 30 points on December 9, 2017, to lead Wichita State to victory over Oklahoma State.

In several different categories, he also held the AAC record. Laundry contributed to getting the Shockers into the NCAA Tournament each year he was a player.
