Lula worked at a business in Memphis to help support her family. Thaddeus was one of her kids who assisted her with housework and thrived despite their father’s absence.
Young continued to play basketball at Mitchell with the help of his mother.
Thaddeus attended the Georgia Institute of Technology to play college basketball and further his education after completing his high school schooling.
At the age of 57, Young’s mother passed away from breast cancer in 2014.

After transferring to the Mitchell School in Memphis, Thad quickly became his colleagues’ best basketball player.

A career in the Profession
He was selected by the Philadelphia 76ers on June 28 in the first round of the 2007 NBA Draft. On November 7, he played in his first NBA game, which the Charlotte Bobcats won.
He did not, however, initially see much action because the team already possessed skilled shooting guards.
However, he began playing frequently for them on the court once they traded for Kyle Korver.
In his first season, Thad participated in 74 games and started 22 of them. He averaged 8.2 points and 4.2 rebounds per game toward the end of the season.

Thaddeus participated in around four playoffs throughout his six additional NBA seasons with the 76ers. He was unable to guide them to a championship ring, though.
In the end, the team moved him in 2014 to the Minnesota Timberwolves.
The Timberwolves didn’t give Thad much playing time even though he was performing at the top of his game.
In the 2014–15 season, he only participated in 48 games, yet he averaged double-digit points per contest.
Before being traded to the Indiana Pacers in 2016, he spent one NBA season with the Brooklyn Nets.
