Edward Alan Wineland Jr., a former mixed martial artist from the United States, competed in the Bantamweight division of the UFC. Wineland was a professional fighter from 2003 to 2022 and the first WEC Bantamweight Champion.
Early Life, Family, and Education
On June 26, 1984, Edward Alan Wineland Jr. was born in Houston, Texas. He resides in Westville, Indiana, a city in the country.

The family of Eddie does, however, include a younger brother who tragically lost 98% of his body to burns at the age of two.
Wineland attended Chesterton High School in Porter County, Indiana, where he received his education. Since he was in high school, Eddie has competed in wrestling.
He began training for MMA with a friend at the Duneland Vale Tudo gym in Hobart, Indiana, after finishing high school at the age of 17.

Early Career
Wineland’s career in mixed martial arts began in regional Midwestern American organizations.
Before signing on with the reputable, now-defunct mixed martial arts promotion World Extreme Cagefighting, Eddie had already competed in 15 professional fights.
World Extreme Cagefighting
At the World Extreme Cagefighting event WEC 20, Wineland defeated Antonio Banuelos via first-round TKO.
In the end, Eddie won the inaugural WEC bantamweight championship, which he unsuccessfully defended against Chase Beebe at WEC 26.
The vote was unanimous in favor of Beebe. At WEC 40 on April 5, 2009, Rani Yahya defeated Wineland by submission in the opening round.
At WEC 43 on October 10 of the same year, Wineland decisively defeated Manny Tapia.
Similar to that, he won his fight against George Roop at WEC 46 on January 10 of the following year.

Wineland’s scheduled opponent Charlie Valencia had to withdraw from WEC 49 due to an injury on June 20, 2010.
He had to fight Will Campuzano as a result, who he eventually defeated in the second round. This victory earned Eddie the moniker “Knockout of the Night.”
In addition, Wineland’s shoulder injury forced him to cancel his fight against Damacio Page at WEC 52 on November 11 of that same year.
At WEC 53 on December 16, Wineland won “Knockout of the Night” for the second time in a row by submitting his opponent with a slam in the first frame.
Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC)
The Ultimate Fighting Championship and World Extreme Cagefighting merged on October 28, 2010, and all WEC competitors were moved to the UFC.
Wineland’s UFC debut took place on March 19, 2011, at UFC 128 against Urijah Faber. Sadly, the fight ended in a unanimous decision loss for him.
On August 14, 2011, he then lost to Joseph Benavidez by unanimous decision at UFC on Versus 5 with the scores 30-27, 30-27, and 30-27.
Demetrious Johnson, who was supposed to be Wineland’s opponent at UFC on Fox 2 on January 28, 2012, withdrew from the bout in order to compete in the UFC’s first-ever Flyweight tournament in March.
Wineland then withdrew from the event as a result of a personal injury.
Both fighters received Fight of the Night recognition for their performance in what was Jorgensen’s first defeat via knockout.
Additionally, on December 29 at UFC 155, Eddie defeated Brad Picket by a split decision.
On June 15, 2013, his upcoming fight at UFC 161 was postponed because his opponent, Renan Baro, pulled out due to a foot injury.

Since August 15, 2015, Wineland and his lovely wife Amber have been married and are blessed with two children.
