Jennette McCurdy was abused by her mother, Debra McCurdy when she was younger. She used to defend her mom in therapy sessions. When her mom died she expressed her happiness.
Jennette McCurdy shows her appearance in “The Drew Barrymore Show” on Monday. She had a conversation about her abusive mother with the show’s host. She stated that she used to defend her mom when she was younger.
Jennette didn’t know her own mom was abusing her until she went to therapy. According to McCurdy she made excuses and tried to make things normal by adjusting.
Similarly, the Nickelodeon star talked about how she used to defend her mother, Debra McCurdy. According to her,
“Initially when I went to therapy, I did have my mom still on the pedestal and every time, I felt defensive immediately.”
Further, when she went to see her first therapist, she tried to explain things and said that her mom did this because she cared for her. Well, explaining the thing, Jennette said,
“Immediately I went into, ‘well she did this, but it’s because she’s such a good mom, it’s because she wanted me to be successful, it’s because she wanted me to have a better [life].”
Also, she added,
“I was so defensive, I didn’t realize that I was at the time, but in retrospect, I see I was disclaiming every single thing that my mom did instead of just stating the reality or how I felt about it. I was more concerned with how to keep my mom looking good than I was with expressing my true emotional reality.”

At the time Jennette was younger and didn’t have any idea about the word abuse. She thought that was the process for making a child successful. However, she did the best decision of going to therapy and she changed a lot.
McCurdy burst out all the pain she had suppressed inside. After then, Jennette understood the meaning of love and abuse is a whole different thing.
Furthermore, Jennette McCurdy also mentioned in many interviews that she is glad that her mom died. Also, she has written a book named, “I’m Glad My Mom Died” in which she has explained everything that her mom did to her.

Jennette McCurdy came into popularity after her documentary “I’m Glad My Mom Died” was made. It was released on June 9 of this year and people liked her struggles and everything.
In the memoir, the writer claimed that her mom used to shower 11 years old her with her teen brother. Not only this but she also used to put her on a strict diet as well. Moreover, she stated,
“Each Sunday, she weighs me and measures my thighs with a measuring tape. After a few weeks of our routine, she provides me with a stack of diet books that I finish quickly… I weigh myself five times a day.”

When McCurdy’s mom knew that her daughter is dating someone, she called her a “FILTHY LITTLE LYING W—E and nothing more than a little S–T, a FLOOZY, ALL USED UP.”
On the other hand, Debra also lied about Jennette’s biological father. There are other things also that she has to deal with in her memoir. However, Debra McCurdy died in the year 2013 due to cancer. Also, in her documentary, Jennette talked about how she used to be treated by her own mom. Explaining it she said,
“My mom emotionally, mentally, and physically abused me. She gave me breast and vaginal exams until I was 17 years old… When I was 6 years old, she pushed me into a career I didn’t want… She taught me an eating disorder when I was 11 years old – an eating disorder that robbed me of my joy and any amount of free-spiritedness that I had.”

Meanwhile, Jennette is now living her life as she wants and has a good relationship with her brother as s well. Though, she mentions sometimes she misses her mom but life goes on and she is over this now.
