To begin his professional career, Volkov joined M-1 Global in April 2009 and made his MMA debut. Fortunately, he won his professional debut against Nikolay Pleshakov by technical knockout only 80 seconds into the game.
After that, he started losing less time, and in just 20 seconds, he defeated Adam Alikhanov.
He had his heaviest career loss after a few wins-filled games. Volkov lost to Akhmed Sultanov in the second round after submitting to an armbar.

Volkov defeated Ibragim Magomedov in the M-1 Challenge 20 – 2009 Finals, winning by unanimous decision, to illustrate the battle.
M-1 Eastern European Tournament
Volkov won the M-1 Selection 2010 – Eastern Europe Finals after competing in the M-1 Global Tournament and M-1 Eastern European Tournament in his first year of professional competition.

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC)
After joining the UFC in September 2016, Volkov faced Timothy Johnson in his debut bout at UFC Fight Night 99 in November. The divided decision was proof that his debut was a success.

In his most recent contest, Volkov faced Alistair Overeem at UFC Fight Night 187 on February 6, 2021. In fact, Volkov took control of the main event at UFC Fight Night in Las Vegas and ended it after just 2 minutes, and 6 seconds of the second round.
Additionally, in this specific fight, which is one of his best in the UFC, he expertly secured an overwhelming victory. The first round was won by Alistair, and the second was won by Volkov.
It was also the first bout held in the United States since the pandemic that followed protocol.
