Bri Winkler was born on 25 October 1988 in southeastern Massachusetts. Her current age is 28 years. She has a sister called Tara Riggs. There is no information related to her parents. Bri has done her graduation from the University of Miami with a Bachelor of Science degree in Marine and Atmospheric Science. Her minors were Mathematics and Communications.
Bri Winkler’s broadcasting career
Bri had started her broadcasting career by joining KAMR-TV which is an NBC-affiliated TV station in Amarillo, Texas. She used to serve there as a morning meteorologist and was a co-host for the ‘Today in Amarillo’ show. She used to chase storms and it has been said that in her first chase, she caught 3 tornadoes.
She not only was the weather girl but used to also do a show called ‘Does it work’ where she used to report on consumer products and its functioning.
Bri Winkler joins ABC7
In 2011, Bri Winkler was hired by ABC7 for their morning meteorologist for Eyewitness News. She used to also do local radio shows, and was featured on ‘Good Morning America’.
Bri Winkler’s stroke
In September 2012, when Bri was just 24 years of age, she suffered a stroke. In an interview she gave to ABC in 2014, Bri recalled the time she got her stroke. She said:
“First I lost the hearing out of my right ear … The numbness spread to my face, then down to my arm and my leg. And then when I went to stand I realized I couldn’t, so I had to get on the floor, so then I had to get on the floor and crawl.”
She called her sister immediately. Her sister Tara gave an urgent call to her family friend in Southern California. 911 were called and she was rushed to the emergency. Her brain scan revealed a blood clot in her brain’s main vessel. She was given tPA to dissolve the clot. Slowly she improved and her brain seemed to not have suffered any permanent brain damage which is heartening.
After her recovery, Bri has taken upon herself to make people aware that stroke can occur at any age and is not limited to old age. She informs Americans about the early signs of stroke. She is an ambassador of the American Stroke Association. She is also an active member of the Western States Task Force. She also shares her story with people at luncheons, conferences, and the like.
Bri Winkler – The 2013 lawsuit
In 2013, a veteran meteorologist named Kyle Hunter had filed a case against in LA Superior Court stating that though he had applied for the job of a meteorologist at ABC7 in June 2011, he was never interviewed for the post. He further added that though Bri Winkler had made no official application, she was taken up for the post since ABC7 hires only young and beautiful women for the said post.
He added that she did not have the requisite experience for the post.
Bri Winkler’s further study plans
Bri Winkler is earning a handsome salary with ABC7. But she has forgone this post to do her Master’s in environmental science. She wrote on her Instagram on July 2017:
“I am leaving to pursue a masters in environmental science and next week will be my last on the morning show. I’ll be back to fill in, so it’s a “see you later” not a “goodbye”! Congratulations to @abc7leslielopez for taking the reigns, I know you’ll do great!”
