American actress Susan Kelechi Watson is currently playing Beth in the NBC drama series called ‘This is us’. Susan is very suitable for the role and her chemistry with her on-screen match Randall played by Sterling K. Brown is so adorable and natural.

While Brown had just finished a series before he bagged this role, in the case of Susan it was completely different, as she said. It was like we would have lost Susan if she had not landed this role.

Susan had a long gap in between her last role and the present character she portrays in ‘This is us’. Talking about her thoughts when she had no acting work, Susan told MTV:

“A month before I booked ‘This is us’, I was like, ‘Maybe I should move to Montreal and work in a coffee shop,’ “

She added:

“I had friends who were praying for me. I was leaning on a support system to believe for me when I was finding it difficult to still believe the dream for myself.”

Luckily, she gained self-confidence. She said:

“All of the sudden I just believed again, like, I didn’t come this far for it not to happen. I’m going to enjoy this again,’”

Luck sided with her again when the Susan and Brown came to know that both are MFA from NYU. Their wavelengths matched and gelled well on the set. She said of Brown:

“…I just trust him and I believe that he trusts me as well. We get into the scene and we’re just in it. I don’t even really know how to explain it. We just both understand the circumstances of it and we’re both in loving relationships. So I think we understand the context of that and be in that. We’re growing to understand our characters more and more, and at the base level of this couple is trust and love.”

Susan also mentioned how her character has been shaped by taking her views into consideration since she is from Jamaica and the character is also Jamaican. She said:

“They’ll come in and check with me about certain things about my culture because Beth is Jamaican and I’m Jamaican-American. They ask questions. They’re a curious group.”
