Annabel Bowlen has a reputable name in the field of figure skating. She has been a figure skater, a wife, a mother, and a philanthropist. She has performed all her roles in society effectively and given joy to many. This first lady of Denver Broncos has an exciting journey of her life as she took over the reign of this team to help her husband (the owner of Denver Broncos) who had to step down due to his Alzheimer’s disease.

The start of her life and growing years

Annabel Bowlen’s birth dates back to 1956 in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Her father was a World War II pilot and her mother (Joan Spencer) was a British secretary. Their family has links with the British Royal Family through Princess Diana. Annabel also has a brother named Richard who is the founder and the President of Spencer Environmental Management Services established in 1984.

There is not much news about Annabel’s childhood days. She had a passion for figure skating which she took up as a career after her graduation. She has graduated from the University of Alberta in Education and Physical Education.

Her career before she met her husband Pat Bowlen

Annabel was a figure skater. She used to work as a figure skating trainer at the local school. She also used to train grade school students in Edmonton. It is here that she met Pat Bowlen who was a millionaire’s son. His father Paul Dennis Bowlen had earned an enormous amount of wealth from the Canadian Oil business. Pat also has an independent career in law and had his own money from this job.

Annabel-Pat marriage

Annabel Bowlen and Pat met in Edmonton, liked each other, and started dating. The couple married soon after. Though their wedding date has not been mentioned, it took place in 1983 or 1984. The couple moved to Denver in Colorado. Pat then bought the Denver Broncos team from the previous owner named Edgar Kaiser Jr. in the year 1984. His two brothers, John and Bill and sister Marybeth were joint owners in this purchase. The family ownership was put in a family trust fund.

Pat was a great leader. Under him, the team reached great heights. It won 7 AFC and 3 Super Bowl Championships. It became one of the most successful teams in NFL history. All was going well until Pat decided to step down due to his Alzheimer’s disease. He was suffering from the disease for many years before his step down from the post on Denver Broncos was made public in 2014. Annabel at that time took over until the time it could be decided who of her children or stepchildren were able to take control of the team.

Annabel’s life after marriage

After becoming the wife of Pat, Annabel Bowlen resigned to family life. She had five children with Pat. These included two sons; John and Patrick and three daughters; Brittany, Annabel, and Christiana. She also was the stepmother to Pat’s children with his first wife namely Amie and Beth.

She did a lot of philanthropy during the more than 3 decades after her marriage. Her pet charity was Beacon Youth & Family Center. She also was the President and founder of the charitable arm of the Englewood Agency which she continued till 2011. She also restarted the Cherish the Children Gala, the annual event of Beacon.

When Pat stepped down from Denver Broncos due to his Alzheimer’s disease, Annabel Bowlen took over the reign of the team for some time. She also released an official statement at that time.

“My family is deeply saddened that Pat’s health no longer allows him to oversee the Broncos, which has led to this public acknowledgment of such a personal health condition… Although we wish Pat were in better health, he developed a plan many years ago for the continuation of his values with the hope of keeping the Broncos in the Bowlen family. I know that his goals will be effectively implemented by Joe Ellis, who has worked with Pat for nearly his entire ownership of the Broncos…We look forward to sharing many more successful seasons of Denver Broncos football with you.”

She too was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in June 2018.

Annabel’s feud with brother-in-law

She filed a lawsuit against her brother in law that will intervene with the litigation involving The Pat Bowlen Trust and Bill Bowlen.
