Benjamin Bratt was the American actor who had played the role of NYPD detective Rey Curtis in Law and Order on NBC. Benjamin Bratt was nominated for the Primetime Emmy Award for this role. Handsome Benjamin is also known for his acting in ABC’s Private Practice and 24: Live another day.

Benjamin Bratt hails from San Francisco and as a child had participated with his mother and siblings in the Native American occupation of Alcatraz in 1969. He was cast in a TV film called Juarez in 1967. He later did the TV series Nasty Boys and was in the character of Eduardo Cruz in it. This was broadcast in 1989 on NBC.
He was also part of films such as Bright Angel in 1990, Chains of Gold in 1991, Blood In and Blood Out in 1993, The River Wild (1994), and Follow Me Home in 1996.

Benjamin got his breakthrough role in 1995 when he was cast as Detective Rey Curtis in Law and Order. He continued to play the role until 1999 and reprised it in 2009. The same role he played in Homicide: Life on the Street.

Benjamin was born on 16 December 1963 in San Francisco, CA. He has four siblings. Though his parents were not in the entertainment line, his paternal grandfather was a Broadway actor and was called George Cleveland Bratt. George married his wife in Detroit in Michigan. Benjamin’s mother Eldy was a nurse and activist and was from Lima, Peru who has migrated to the US at age 14.
His father Peter Bratt Sr. was a sheet metal worker and of German and English descent. His parents married in 1960 but got divorced in 1967.

Benjamin was a student at Lowell High School and earned his BFA from the University of California in Santa Barbara in 1986. He took the admission for the MFA program at American Conservatory Theater but left it in between when he got a chance to act in a TV series called Juarez.
