Bonnie Somerville was born on 24 February 1974. She hails from Brooklyn, New York, and was raised by her mother and her Irish family. She had an interest in acting from a young age and used to act and sing in her high school plays. She was at the Poly Prep Country Day School and this was situated in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. She then was at Boston College and did a major in Musical Theater. She then came back to her hometown. Recalling the childhood memories, Bonnie had said:

In the initial struggling days, Bonnie Somerville used to wait on tables. She was noticed by a scout agent and was offered to come down to LA. She moved to LA at age 22 and formed her own band. She did some backup singing work and wrote a song called Winding Road which was included in the film Garden State Soundtrack.
In the 1996’s film called City Hall, she worked as an extra. In 1998, she was cast as Cindy in Two Guys and a Girl. She was also seen in Beverly Hills, 90210. She got a lead in 1999’s Shake, Rattle and Roll: An American Love Story. She was seen as Courtney Scott in Gross Pointe (2000-2001). At around the same time, she also bagged roles in films such as Crime and Punishment in Suburbia, Bedazzled, and Sleep Easy, Hutch Rimes.
