Boy George was born on June 14, 1961, as George Alan O’Dowd in Eltham, London, to parents Gerry and Dinah O’Dowd. George grew young in a lively household with his four brothers and one sister.
Boy George’s Childhood and Education
George claims that he had a lonely childhood, referring to himself as the “pink sheep” of the family despite being a part of the large working-class Irish brood.
George created his image, which he came to depend on for standing out in the male-dominated household. He reminisced :
“It didn’t bother me to walk down the street and to be stared at. I loved it,”
George didn’t exactly conform to the typical school student archetype. He attended the Eltham Green School but was expelled cause of his bold ideas and preposterous style of dressing and behaving.

Boy George’s Relationship and Affair
George splashed on a relationship with drummer Jon Moss, and he claimed that some of the songs he wrote during his period were aimed at Moss directly. The pair’s romance could not last for long, with speculation that Moss had broken off his engagement to a woman to be with George, but was never entirely comfortable in a homosexual relationship.

Boy George’s Career
George was engaged in petty jobs to sustain himself when George was thrown out of the school as he was not fully accepted by his family for who he was. He was engaged as a fruit picker, milliner, etc. The New Romantic Movement emerged in the U.K where George’s flamboyant style caught the attention of Malcolm McLaren and was accepted to join ‘Bow Wow Wow’ in around the 1980s.
George founded his band with bassist Mikey Craig, drummer Jon Moss, and Roy Hay which had people from different ethnic cultures and beliefs in their group that become a reason behind their band so-called ‘Culture Club’.
Culture club’s released their first album ‘Kissing To Be Clever’ and the hit single ‘Do You Want to Hurt Me?’ established him as a talented singer all over the world in 1982. He played himself in an episode of the television series ‘The A-Team’ in 1986.
He then released the album ‘Coming Home’ in 2013 which was released digitally for the first time and reached on number 2 on the Juno Download Chart.
