Brett Kavanaugh is the American Jurist who is now the Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States. He was appointed to the post in this year but after his nomination and before he was voted in, he faced allegations of sexual misconduct from several of his past female employees.

Brett Kavanaugh’s name was shortlisted to the Supreme Court and he was one of the four Judges from the Court of Appeals whose names were suggested as a replacement for the retired Associate Justice Kennedy. Christine Blasey Ford who worked as a professor in psychology at the Palo Alto University tipped the Washington Post and her regional Congresswoman Anna Eshoo that Brett had sexually assaulted her when she was in high school. She stated that he had pinned her down along with his friend and tried to force himself on her. She also stated that she managed to escape from his attack.

Brett immediately issued a statement which read as follows:

“I categorically and unequivocally deny this allegation. I did not do this back in high school or at any time.”

He said that he is innocent of the charge and had done nothing wrong. But two more women came forward and accused Brett of sexual misconduct.

There were nearly 90 women who came in support of Brett and said that they have known him for many years and he had never misbehaved with them. There was a hearing by the supplemental Senate Judiciary Committee and also an FBI investigation and the Senate confirmed Brett’s nomination with a vote of 50: 48. He was sworn in on 7 October. Brett had written:

“They are also a threat to any man or woman who wishes to serve our country, Such grotesque and obvious character assassination – if allowed to succeed – will dissuade competent and good people of all political persuasions from service.”

Brett has resumed office and has not been a mute spectator during the proceedings of the first case which came to him. It was 20 minutes into the argument when he asked his first question:

“But — but, counsel — counsel, in Curtis Johnson, you rely heavily on the general statements of the Court, but the application of those general statements was to something very specific: Battery and a mere tap on the shoulder. And all Curtis Johnson seemed to hold was that that was excluded. So why don’t we follow what Curtis Johnson seemed to do in applying those general statements to the specific statute at issue here and why wouldn’t that then encompass the Florida statute, which requires more than, say, a tap on the shoulder?”
