Early Life and Education

He later made a 56-yard field goal against the Georgia Bulldogs, which at the time was the longest in the Southeastern Conference (SEC).

2010 also saw Sturgis experience a horrible injury. In the four games, he attempted four field goals, making two of them, however, his season was cut short due to a back injury.

Professional Career

In 2013, Sturgis’ professional career began to take off. The Miami Dolphins selected him with the 166th overall pick, making him the first kicker ever taken in the 2013 NFL Draft.

In his first game as a professional, Caleb attempted three field goals and was successful on all three.

In Week 5’s game against the Baltimore Ravens, he attempted a 57-yard field goal near the end of the fourth quarter, but the Dolphins lost 26-23.

With 11 seconds left in regulation, Sturgis’ 44-yard field goal against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 9 knotted the score at 20, and the Miami Dolphins went on to win 22-20 in overtime.

After that, on September 5, the team released him, and in 2015, Andrew Franks took his position.

Philadelphia Eagles

The Philadelphia Eagles acquired Caleb after Cody Parkey’s injury ended his campaign on September 28, 2015.

In his first game with the team, Sturgis missed a 30-yard field goal try and an extra point attempt as the Eagles fell to the Washington Redskins 23–20.

While Sturgis had the opportunity to make all four of his field goal tries in his second game with the Eagles—including the one that broke a 7-7 tie in the second quarter and helped the Eagles overcome the New Orleans Saints 39-17—he missed one more point in that contest.
