She joined Shawnee High School in Medford Township, New Jersey and graduated from there in 1983. She began her career working as a minor role in an episode of ‘Guiding Light’ in 1989 as a babysitter. She debuted her film role as an acting student in the film ‘Naked in New York’ in 1993, and after a year, she appeared in the movies ‘Clear Cut’, ‘Getting In’, and ‘Quiz Show’.
Calista portrayed the role of Barbara Keeley in ‘The Birdcage’ in 1996, Christine in ‘Milk & Money’ in 1996, Diney Majeski in ‘Telling Lies in America’ in 1997. She was not so successful till then but, when she was discovered by producer David E. Kelley in 1997, she got the lead role in his new series ‘Ally McBeal’ and became an immediate success.
