Lauren Riihimaki is a Canadian YouTuber and crafter famous for her YouTube channel LaurDIY. As of 2019, her YouTube channel has more than 9 million subscribers.

 Her Youtube channel is known as “one of the most well-regarded fashion and beauty YouTube channels in Canada.

Lauren’s birth, age, parents, school, and creative childhood

Canadian YouTuber Lauren Riihimaki was born on 11^th August 1993 in St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada. Her full name is Lauren Kobayashi Riihimaki. Her parents are Greg and Gail Riihimaki. She is of mixed race. Her father is a Finnish-Ukrainian, while her mother is of Japanese origin.

Lauren Riihimaki was first at Alexandra Public School. She was very good at extra-curricular activities. She used to do swimming, skating, piano, and guitar. She took part in a number of sports during her childhood and was a good athlete. At the Alexandra Public School, Lauren had received the French Award and Female Athlete Award.

After the 6^th grade, Lauren shifted to Queen Mary Public School. She enrolled in the French Immersion program at her middle school. She excelled in her activities at this school as well and won several awards and prizes.

She later studied at Sir Winston Churchill High School. Having completed her school, Lauren went on to join the Ryerson University at Toronto. She acquired a degree in Technology from this University.

Lauren had disclosed that her time at the university was full of worries and anxiety to meet deadlines. She had to overwork a lot and that caused her to suffer from general anxiety disorder. She did not enjoy her time there and also faced depression. It went so bad that Lauren had to seek medical assistance and was put on some medications. Her best friends at the University also helped her in overcoming her mental issues and making her a confident person.

Lauren Riihimaki had shown signs of creativity right from her childhood. Even as a child, she used to possess that creative flair. She remembers that at the age of four years, she had assisted her father in making a cardboard box. She continued to do several creative works throughout her childhood days and into her teenage years. When she made her YouTube channel, it seemed the right platform for her to vent her creativity and innovative ideas.

Lauren’s career

It was by mere chance that Lauren happened to stumble on her career. She was at the Ryerson University doing her Graphic Communications Management Course. It dawned on her that though this course would provide her with employment opportunities in later life, it failed to create a platform for her to express her creativity.

At her college residence, she started decorating her room with her DIY items in order to make it more attractive and less boring.

Lauren Riihimaki started searching on the internet for ways to make a website. She landed on the WordPress website which provided the basics on how to make a website and blog. She made her own blog called ‘Desire and Inspire’ and commenced blogging.

Her initial blogs were in the form of pictures of her work in various stages of formation. After few such postings, Lauren took to posting videos of her creative work online. She made her own YouTube channel and uploaded videos on it. She used the video URLs and embedded it in her blog.

She named her channel ‘LaurDIY’. It was a matter of time before her YouTube channel started gaining a tremendous amount of subscribers. Her YouTube subscribers now total more than 6 million while she has an equal number of followers on her Instagram and Twitter.

Her videos deal with fashion and beauty. Lauren registered and created another YouTube channel called as ‘LaurDIY2’ on which she provides her fans and viewers information about her life. On completion of her graduation, Lauren took to full-time blogging and video making for YouTube channel.

Lauren Riihimaki also shifted to Los Angeles and started collaborating with other fellow YouTubers. She worked on a Disney project for which she was required to g to Tokyo, Japan. Lauren worked for famous brands such as Starbucks, P&G, Dick Tape, and Etsy.

Lauren also set foot into the acting zone and has starred in short comedy films and TV series. She also has featured on the ‘Seventeen’ Magazine in 2016. Lauren is basking in the glory of her success and we wish her the very best for her future.

Lauren’s Relationships, boyfriend

Lauren had a boyfriend called Joey when she was in high school. It was a brief affair and the two split but continued to maintain their friendship. She also was in a relationship with a person called as Baz but they broke.

Lauren is currently dating fellow YouTuber Alex Burriss of ‘Wassabi Productions’ since 2015. The relationship is going fine with no rumors of tension or break-ups.

Lauren and her boyfriend Alex has broken up. The ex-couple shared the news in a Youtube video on September 15. The video titled “we broke up” was an emotional video.

Lauren Riihimaki said in the video:

“We both feel like we need specific things and we’re not fully on the same page so we need to take time apart so we can be on the same page,”
