Professional Life and Career
When Lewis was thirteen, he started competing in the long jump. He also named the top junior long jumpers of New Jersey.
In 1979, he broke the high school record with a leap of just 8.13m which was a national record. After that, he was trained by Tom Tellez at the University of Houston. By the end of 1979, Lewis was ranked fifth in the world for the long jump, according to Track and Field News.
In 1980, he won the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) title. In 1981, Lewis was ranked number two in the history of the long jump. In the same year, he also named the fastest 100m sprinter in the world.
Moreover, Lewis participated in the Olympics in 1984 and won gold medals in the long jump, 100m, 200m, and 4*100m relay race. However, he couldn’t defeat Ben Johnson in 100m sprint in 1985 and 1986.
In the second season of World Championship in 1987, he won gold medals in the category of long jump and 4*100 relay race. Similarly, he also won one of the toughest competitions of 100m in the World Championships with a new record of 9.86.
In 1997, Lewis retired from the track and the field. Currently, he owns a marketing and branding company named C.L.E.G.
