American soccer player Carli Lloyd has won two Olympic gold medals. She currently plays for Manchester City and was the first athlete of either gender to score the winning goal in back-to-back Olympic Games, taking home two gold medals for the US in 2008 and 2012.

The American soccer sensation Carli Lloyd was born on January 16, 1982, in Delran, New Jersey. Her two siblings are Ashley and Stephen.

As a member of the US junior national team, Carli Lloyd won the Nordic Cup from 2002 to 2005. She was a member of the senior US team in 2005, and she faced Ukraine in her debut international match in July of the same year.

Carli was named the 2007 Algarve Cup’s MVP (most valuable player) after scoring four goals there. She made her FIFA Women’s World Cup debut that year. The US and North Korea drew 2-2 in the tournament’s opening match.

Then, they defeated Sweden 2-0. With a 1-0 victory over Nigeria, the US concluded group play. The United States defeated England 3-0 in the quarterfinal. The US suffered a defeat against Brazil in the semifinals.

Carli also took on a significant role for the US women’s team at the 2008 Olympics. She helped her nation win a gold medal by scoring the game-winning goal against Brazil and the winning goal against Japan.

Lloyd officially retired in November 2021 shortly after announcing her retirement in August. She participated in the Women’s Professional Soccer league in 2008 for the Chicago Red Stars, who had a 5-5-10 season record and finished sixth overall. In 2010 she joined Sky Blue FC, and in 2011 she joined the Atlanta Beat.

She scored the first goal in the 2010 Algarve Cup, assisting her team to win the tournament after defeating Germany 3-2.

During the 2010 CONCACAF Women’s World Cup Qualifying Tournament, when the US finished third, she was also selected Player of the Match three times.

She scored three goals and provided five assists against Italy in the UEFA-CONCACAF play-off at the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup, giving her 100th cap overall.
