Cheryl Burton was born on December 25, 1962, in Chicago, Illinois, U.S. No more is known about the smart lady as she likes to keep her private details to the personal self.
She attended the Lindblom Technical High School (now known as Lindblom Math & Science Academy). From there she graduated in 1980.
To accomplish her dreams of becoming a journalist, she enrolled at the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana. She was a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority there. She graduated from university with a B.S. in Psychology and Biology. In 2007, she was the first alumnus inducted into the school’s hall of fame.
Journalism, TV show, WMBD-TV
She was on television on Romper Room, as a contestant on Star Search, and hosted an hour-long cable TV show called Simply Elegant.
Later she began her career in broadcasting in 1989. She first was a broadcaster at WGN-TV in Chicago. There she co-anchored “MBR: The Minority Business Report”.
After a year of broadcasting, she moved to Peoria, Illinois where she worked as a reporter at WMBD-TV. The same year in 1990, she also anchored at KWCH-DT in Wichita, Kansas.
In 1992, she left KWCH-DT and joined WLS-TV as weekend co-anchor/reporter. With her hard work and dedication, she was promoted to 5 p.m. weekday co-anchor and 10 p.m. contributing anchor. There she has been working since 1992.

Also a cheerleader
She was not only academically ahead but was also a cheerleader. She was a cheerleader of the Chicago Honey Bears cheerleading squad for the Chicago Bears. She was a cheerleader for three seasons- from 1983-1986.
Heart of gold
The smart and beautiful lady has a heart of gold. Burton was the first recipient of the 2005 “Sisters in the Spirit” Award, a religious award. In 2008, she won the NABJ (National Association of Black Journalist) Salute to Excellence International.
For her continuous support in community service, she received the 2009 Procter & Gamble Award. She has received several awards for her outstanding work in Journalism over the years.

On April 23, 2008, Burton was on her dinner break and was walking near Washington St. and State Street. A 28-year-old man named Gregory Perdue injured Cheryl after punching her in the head and knocked her to the ground. She thought she was shot. After An X-Ray and CAT Scan revealed no severe damage, but she said she suffered from headaches for months following the attack.

Cheryl dated Jim Rose when she was a Chicago Bears cheerleader. Rose is an ANC 7 sports reporter. After a year, Rose romantically proposed to her at a Super Bowl XIX party in Chicago. It was their one year anniversary too. They got married in 1986 until they filed for divorce in 1995.
