Nineteen-year-old China Anne McClain is an Atlanta-born singer and actress. She is part of the sister girl band called McClain. Her entry into the music industry has a story behind which we will talk about today.
Coming first to her birth and childhood days, China was born in Atlanta, Georgia; Decatur to be precise. Born on 25 August 1998, China’s current age is 19 years. Her father Michael is a music producer and her mother Shontell is a vocalist cum songwriter. Her father’s music company is named Gabesworld Music, So exposure to music came early for China Anne in her life. She has two sisters Lauryn and Sierra with whom she has formed her music band. In 2005, when China Anne was 7 years old, Ian Burke, a family friend had come over to their place for dinner. China performed a song in front of him. He liked it so much that he immediately made a phone call to his director friend Rob Hardy who was looking out for a fresh face for his upcoming film The Gospel. He wanted an actress who could also sing and China fitted the role.
She gave her life’s first audition and was chosen to play Alexis. Her two sisters were also seen in the Children’s Gospel Choir scene in the movie.
After this role, China gave more auditions in various locations such as North Carolina, California, Illinois, and Georgia. Her acting in The Gospel caught the attention of Tyler Perry who then cast her in his TV series called Tyler Perry’s House of Payne. She and her two sisters were cast in Daddy’s Little Girls.
She has made noticeable guest appearances in Hannah Montana, NCIS, and Hurricane Season (2009). She starred in Jonas on Disney Channel, Grown Ups, and the 2011’s Wizards of Waverly Place.
