“I was born in Kenya in 1974 and spent much of my youth overseas. My parents separated and moved around for work, and my older brother and I went back and forth between them. Before it was over I had lived in dozens of countries on four continents. I sold tomatoes door-to-door as a five-year old, mowed twenty lawns a week when I was ten, worked as a rough carpenter in high school, and spent nine seasons as a commercial salmon fisherman in Alaska.”

Christopher and his career in films

Christopher then migrated to New York and began doing some work in the entertainment industry. There is no great detail mentioned about his early days there which were probably his struggling days as well. Christopher debuted into direction with his film called Sangre de Mi Sangre.

It is the story of two illegal immigrants from Mexico who are trying to get some foothold in Brooklyn. It created ripples at the Sundance Film Festival and garnered some good reviews. Here the film had the name of Padre Nuestro. When asked about the scary nature of the film, Christopher narrated his childhood incident. He said:

“You know, when I lived in Bolivia we had a car that was smuggled in from Brazil. When I was 8 years old, every time we’d drive in from the ranch into town, we’d get chased by the army — guys with machine guns! They were just looking for a little bribe, and for the adults it was no big deal. But to me, age 8, I was utterly terrified and I developed a horrible, horrible fear of cities.”

This filmmaker received the Grand Jury Prize for his film at Sundance.

His 2007 film Our Father also went on to received several awards. In 2009, he made the film Home is Where You Find it. In 2016, he made the film called Beautiful and Twisted. His films have unique storylines and also touch of reality in them. Hence they are liked and enjoyed by the masses.
