Who is Sarah Silverman?

Sarah Silverman is another famous comedian and she has made her career out of it. She also has become an actress, winning two  Primetime Emmy Awards. Her comedy is mostly focused on social taboos,  racism, sexism, politics, and religion.

Sarah Silverman’s bio, age, family, and education

Sarah was born on December 1, 1970, in Bedford, New Hampshire, U.S. Her mother’s name is Beth Ann and her father’s name is Donald Silverman. Her mother worked as a photographer and was selected to be George McGovern‘s campaign photographer. Beth also founded the theater company New Thalian Players. Donald worked as a social worker and also ran a clothing store named Crazy Sophie’s Outlet. Sarah was raised in Manchester, New Hampshire.

Sadly, her parents decided not to be together and got divorced. Sarah was the youngest of the five siblings. Her sisters are Susan Silverman, a reform rabbi, Jodyne Silverman, a screenwriter, and Laura Silverman an actress. She also had a brother, Jeffrey Michael who had died at the age of three months.

Silverman is a graduate of The Derryfield School, graduating in 1989. Her school is located in Manchester. After that, she attended  New York University but she dropped out after a year in college.

Sarah, 47 is of mixed ethnicity ( Polish and Russian) and her nationality is American.

Sarah Silverman’s career

Sarah loved comedy. And at the age of 17, she tried her hands at comedy. At that age, she performed as a stand-up comedian in Boston. Now she describes the first performance as “awful”. Later after dropping out of college, she performed in  Greenwich Village.

For 18 weeks she was on the Saturday Night Live(SNL) as a writer and featured player. But she was fired from there. Sarah has also shared that during that time, she was not ready for the SNL job. She also added that for a year her confidence was hurt but later she was able to come back stronger.

Bob Odenkirk, also an SNL writer (former) has described Sarah as:

“I could see how it wouldn’t work at SNL because she’s got her own voice, she’s very much Sarah Silverman all the time. She can play a character but she doesn’t disappear into the character—she makes the character her.”

With her hard work and determination, she is now one of the top comedians in the world. She has starred in the HBO sketch comedy series Mr. Show, Who’s the Caboose?,  Star Trek: Voyager,  There’s Something About Mary,  School of Rock, Greg the Bunny, and Crank Yankers.

In the year 2005, Sarah released a concert film titled  Sarah Silverman: Jesus Is Magic. 2007 was also a good year for her. Her TV sitcom series The Sarah Silverman Program was aired. Her series was a massive hit, collecting up to 1.81 million viewers. For this series, she was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award. After 3 running seasons, her program was canceled.

Also, she was awarded an Emmy Award for Outstanding Music and Lyrics which was the 60th Primetime Emmy Awards.

Sarah published an autobiography titled The Bedwetter in April 2010.

In the upcoming animated movie, Ralph breaks the internet: wreck-it ralph 2, Sarah has voiced the main character Venellope von Schweetz. She has also lent her voice to the same character in the first movie.

Sarah Silverman’s personal life

Sarah has shared her life-both good and bad with the public as much as she shares her jokes. It is well known that she has a lifelong battle with depression and at one point in her life had become addicted to Xanax. She also shared a fact that most of us would dare- she still struggles with bedwetting. In a 2007 interview, she admitted she still had the problem to deal with.

Sarah is a woman with her voice. She has stated that she does not want her biological kids and wants to avoid it so that her depression will not be inherited.

Sarah Silverman’s boyfriend and marriage

Sarah is an unmarried woman and is currently single. She had joked that she won’t get married until same-sex marriage is legalized in the US. And when the US legalized same-sex marriage, she could not but share her humor:

 “Just read that I wanna get married which is hilarious b/c I will never get married. Why would I want the govt involved in my love life? Ew. It’s barbaric.”

She was known to be dating Jimmy Kimmel in 2002. After around 8 years of dating, in 2009, the couple split for undisclosed reasons. After breaking up, she dated comedian Kyle Dunnigan for two years.

Sarah then went on to date Welsh actor Michael Sheen in 2014. They too couldn’t stay together with the issue of long-distance and the relationship crumbled. They broke up in 2017.

As of now, Sarah is single and is focused on her comedy work, and is also working as an activist.
