In the aftermath of the Charlottesville violence, President Trump had given a speech. Eboni Williams felt that the speech was inadequate and had not directly condemned the White Supremacists who were responsible for the violent eruption.
She felt that Trump was trying to reap the benefits of racism and use it in his favor. On her ‘Docket’ segment in ‘The Fox News Specialist’, Eboni Williams heavily criticized Trump for his anti-black standing. She said:
“Mr. President, your initial response was cowardly and dangerous, and they indeed warranted a second statement,”
She sincerely believed that Trump had failed to immediately call out ‘white supremacy’ and the white nationalist groups. Eboni added:
“I was willing to give you the benefit of the doubt. I can no longer do that, Mr. President. No more benefit ― all doubt. In a moment where you could have been crystal clear where you stand on the issue of inclusion, standing up against white supremacy and domestic terrorism, you very intentionally chose to be ambiguous and equivocate.”
She ended her speech with a passionate plea to Trump to end it all and weed out the domestic terrorists.
Eboni Williams- The death threats
The next day Eboni received around 150 email messages (instead of the usual 10-15) and most of these were hate mails and death threats. People had gone on to state that she would meet her Maker soon and that she would not be allowed to walk the streets of New York. Eboni was taken aback by such hatred and felt pensive.
But she was happy that she had put forth her point. The trollers also came to know that she stays at Harlem and had written that Harlem needs to watch out.
Fox News had to provide her with security from her home to the workplace. Talking to Variety, Eboni said:
“When you don’t speak out and condemn, that’s tacit compliance in my book,”
Eboni is a registered Independent who voted for Obama. Talking about her critics and her not having spoken about the counter-protestors, Eboni said:
“I don’t think they were at fault because they didn’t drive a car into a crowd of people and kill Heather Heyer,”
