Drew Lynch is an American stand-up comedian who shot to fame when he won the runner-up position in 2015’s America’s Got Talent show. Drew Lynch was a highly talented and promising actor when tragedy struck him. But he braved all the odds and recoiled back to achieve the success that he so rightfully deserved!

Drew Lynch’s voice-affecting injury

Drew Lynch was a normal boy who had a dream and eagerness to become a fully articulate actor one day in Hollywood. He was working towards this goal but destiny had something else in store for him! Once while playing company softball at the age of 20 years, he injured his throat badly that left him with a stutter. Describing the sports injury, Drew Lynch said:

“I had a sports injury. That’s what I talk like this…I was on a softball team. There was a grounder that took a bad hop and hit me in my throat, which damaged some nerves in my vocal cords.”

Drew also had fallen unconscious for 24 hours after the injury and woke up to find that he had a stutter. This stutter was not a developmental stutter. He had developed it for post-injury. To have stutter post-injury is very rare and Drew is one of those cases.

It might be due to neurogenic involvement due to concussion and brain affection and not due to the peripheral nerves or local voice box damage. It could also have a psychogenic element or be mixed.

Drew was born on 10 August 1991 in Indianapolis, Indiana, the USA and is currently 27 years old. He was raised in Las Vegas. His father’s name is Tim Lynch while Drew’s mother is Chris. Drew has one brother and 1 sister. He had completed his graduation from the Las Vegas Academy of Performing Arts.

He was an eager young actor and was a very talkative person in his childhood. But the softball injury changed his life completely. However, Drew did not allow this handicap to come on his way to becoming an entertainer. He started concentrating his energy and attention on writing and doing stand-up comedy acts.

Drew then started bringing to the forefront the social hardships faced by those who have a speech impairment and disability. In 2015, Drew auditioned for the 2015 season 10 of America’s Got Talent. His message to the world was that one can change any situation into a positive one. He gave an amazing and emotional performance which made the judges so happy that he was directly pushed to the quarterfinals.

He cleared the quarter- and semi-finals. He appeared at the finals and was declared the runner-up. He lost it to the ventriloquist Paul Zerdin.

Drew then went on to appear in the game show called Idiotest alongside comedian Michael Kosta.  They just won $ 40 on this show but managed to collect a lot of money for their charities. He was also featured in the fourth season of the TV show Maron. In August 2017, drew also appeared on the late-night talk show on TBS called Conan.

He had expressed his wish thus:

“I want to have a sitcom. I think my job is to show people in entertainment that just because you’re disabled doesn’t mean you CAN’T do something.”

He also has his YouTube channel where he posts his pictures and also vlogs and uploads comedy videos and acts. He is loved by his fans and they inspired by his courage to overcome his impediment and still move forward. Talking about one such moment, he had said:

“I think the best thing that’s happened to me was having a guy approach me after a show, who also stuttered, and express how inspired he was.”

His dog often features on his videos and he is supposedly single. He had recently tweeted:
