South Korea is known for its flawless beauties and Choi Ji-Woo is one of them. She is a popular South Korean actress who has appeared in TV melodramas. She has been in this field since 1994 when she won a talent competition. Choi has not looked back after that and continued to climb the heights of fame with her dedication and hard work.
Choi’s pre-fame days
If we look at the biography of Choi, we can see that she was born on 11 June 1875 in Paju, Gyeonggi Province of South Korea. Her parents are Choi Un-Yeong and Yun Gil-Ja. Beyond that, there is nothing more known about her parents. Choi Ji-Woo is said to be her stage name while her real name is Choi Mi-Hyang. She has an elder brother.

She first studied at Busan Sooyoung Elementary Dukmoon Girl’s High School. Later she studied at Busan Women’s College and majored in aerobic dance. For further studies, she joined the Department of Theater and Film at Hanyang University and completed her first year of study but subsequently dropped out of college to manage her busy work schedule.
The win and start of her career
In 1994, Choi took part in a talent audition organized by MBC and won it. It was here that she was noticed and offered a role in the MBC TV series ‘War and Love’.
In 1996, Choi was cast in the film named ‘The Adventures of Mrs. Park’. The same year, she was also cast in the popular South Korean romantic drama television series ‘First Love’. She starred as Su-jinin in the South Korean film ‘The Hole’ (1997). For this role, she was nominated and also won the Best Actress award.

A series of TV and film appearances followed which included the South Korean romantic comedy series ‘Mr. Duke’ (2000) that won her Excellence Award, Actress at the MBC Drama Awards; and flicks like ‘First Kiss’ (1998) and ‘Nowhere to Hide’ (1999).

Choi Ji-Woo tragic heroine roles
Choi got more attention and praise for her portrayal of tragic heroines in TV drama series such as ‘Truth’ (2000) and ‘Beautiful Days’ (2001). Her role in Beautiful Days earned her 2 SBS Drama awards for her excellent acting. Her greatest breakthrough was with her role in the South Korean romantic melodrama TV series ‘Winter Sonata.
She played Jeong Yoo-Jin opposite Bae Yong-Joon in Winter Sonata and this role is her most iconic one. She gained pan-Asian recognition and her career touched new heights. She particularly became a darling of the people in Japan and this earned her the reputation and name of Ji-woo Hime (“Princess Ji-woo”).

This role also gave her several awards such as Most Popular Actress (TV) award at the 38th Baeksang Arts Awards in 2002.
She portrayed Choi Eun-soo in the South Korean romantic comedy flick ‘The Romantic President’. For this role too, she managed to earn many awards. She had more award-winning performances such as in the South Korean series, ‘Stairway to Heaven’, a romantic melodrama, in which she starred with Kwon Sang-woo.
She has a guest appearance in Full House in 2004. She was also cast in Japanese drama ‘RONDO’(2006) and played the lead character of Lee Ma-ri in the romantic drama TV series ‘Star’s Lover’ and in South Korean mockumentary-style drama ‘Actresses’ (2009).

Choi Ji-Woo own company

Choi started her own management company called C.JW and her brother is the CEO of this agency. She also did ‘The Suspicious Housekeeper’, romantic melodrama television series ‘Temptation’, ‘Twenty Again’ (2015), ‘Woman with a Suitcase’ (2016) and ‘First Seven Kisses’ (2016) and the romantic comedy film ‘Like for Likes’ (2016). She has more memorable roles under her belt and has also appeared in numerous music videos. She has a net worth of $ 15 million.
