He married actress Nancy Morgan in 1977 and their married life was smooth until 1996 when they filed for divorce. The couple has three children-2 sons and a daughter.

The sons are Jason Ritter who had appeared in the opening credits of the movie Three’s Company. The other son is Tyler Ritter. He is also an actor who has appeared in CBS’s The McCarthys. He had once said smilingly:

“John Ritter is my dad… was my dad, is my dad, forever will be my dad, and a huge influence on my life,”

The daughter of John Ritter with Nancy is Carly. John then met actress Amy Yasbeck and started dating her. The two tied the knot on 18 September 1999 at Murphy Theater in Wilmington, Ohio. They had a daughter called Stella who was born on 11 September 1998.

Stella was a beautiful girl before she decided to transition into a male and acquired the name of Noah Ritter. This happened in July 2017.

The early years

John Ritter was born on 17 September 1948 in Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center in Burbank, California. This incidentally was also the hospital in which he died. He was born with a right eye congenital defect called a coloboma. His parents were also entertainers-his father Tex Ritter was a singing cowboy/matinee star while his mother Dorothy Fay was an actress. He had an elder brother who was 1.5 years older than him and named Thomas.

John studied at Hollywood High School and later joined the University of Southern California from where he majored in psychology. He later changed his major to theater arts and went to USC School of Dramatic Arts. He used to perform in college plays and had also been to the UK, Netherlands, and West Germany for plays. He obtained his degree in 1971.

His career and the milestones in it

John was in several stage productions. His first role was in the TV series called Dan August. His debut film was Disney’s The Barefoot Executive (1971). He did many guest appearances on TV series. He bagged a recurring role in The Waltons. His great breakthrough role was in Three’s Company for which he got many coveted awards.

He also appeared in Ringo, Hero At Large, Amencathon, and They All Laughed. He also was seen in music videos. He did more remarkable roles in several more films and TV series and these were appreciated and received rave reviews. He was doing 8 Simple Rules when he expired.

His death

John developed sweating and vomiting with chest pain when he was filming for 8 Simple Rules. He was taken to Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center in Burbank, California where he was misdiagnosed as an acute heart attack. When his condition worsened, it came to light that it was aortic dissection. But while waiting for surgery, John died 6 days before his 55th birthday.
