By traveling from one headland to the next, they were able to find their way. The weather was comparatively calm on the West and North Coasts.
But on the infamous South Coast and the East Coast, Freya and Greg had to deal with some challenging situations.

The other paddlers had never attempted long open-water kayaking adventures, but Freya and Greg successfully finished two of them.

First Solo Circumnavigation

The only other person to have done it was Paul Caffyn from New Zealand, who circumnavigated Australia in 361 days (257 of which were spent paddling).
It took Hoffmeister 28 fewer days to complete the journey. She saw deadly jellyfish, sharks, sea snakes, and saltwater crocodiles while traveling, and “at one point a shark bit the stern, making two holes in the side of the kayak.”
