Giada De Laurentiis is an Italian famous chef, writer, and TV personality and runs her own catering business GDL Foods. She has opened several restaurants including GDL Italian, located in the Horseshoe Casino in Baltimore, Maryland.

She was born Giada Pamela De Benedetti on the 22nd August 1970, in Rome, Italy. Giada’s mom’s name is Veronica and her dad’s name is Alex De Benedetti. Her mother is Italian and she is an actress and a writer. Her parents divorced after the birth of their fourth child. Later, her mother remarried Giada’s stepfather Ivan Kavalsky.
Giada is the first child of her mother and she has three siblings: brothers Dino (he’s a producer), who passed away in 2003, and Igor and sister Eloisa.
She attended Marymount High School and then enrolled in the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), from which she obtained a bachelor’s degree in social anthropology in 1996.
Professional Career
After graduation, she decided to pursue a career as a chef, as she had been interested in cooking from an early age, often finding herself in the family kitchen, and frequently in her grandfather’s restaurant, GDL Food show.
After that, she moved to Paris, where she studied at Le Cordon Bleu with a focus on pastry cooking, then returned to the US. Later, she pursued a career as a professional chef, finding a place for herself at one of the Spago chain restaurants owned by Wolfgang Puck.
She began her career on TV in 2002 when she was invited by the Food Network channel for a cooking show. In the same year she was contacted by the Food Network, and in 2003 debuted in her own show, entitled “Everyday Italian”, which premiered on the 5th April.
She even hosted the shows about cooking such as “Giada in Paradise” (2007-2013), and “Giada at Home” (2008-2015).
Since 2005, she published 8 books all of which became popular and in 2014 she opened her first restaurant. Her famous books are: “Giada at Home: Family Recipes from Italy and California”, and “Weeknights with Giada: Quick and Simple Recipes to Revamp Dinner”, and many more.
