  • I try not to limit myself. The actors that inspire me are the comedians and the people able to shape-shift into different roles and into different media. That ensures your longevity as an artist and prevents you from getting bored with yourself and, hopefully, prevents people from getting bored with you.
  • As a biracial girl growing up in England, I'd never really seen any historical characters who looked like me depicted on film before that weren't being brutalized or playing slaves.
  • I always get a little bit scared reading reviews.

Why does success still elude her?

Though Gugu has been part of so many successful projects, she has still not achieved a lot of commercial success. She has yet not reached the stardom level though she has got many nominations and awards. The probable reasons: her color, her female gender, not-so-good marketing strategies of her projects amongst others could have caused this obstacle on her success path.

Source: Pinterest (Gugu Mbatha-Raw) has analyzed:

“One of the things that has seemingly held Mbatha-Raw back is the fact that her projects, while sounding right on paper, have not worked out for some reason or the other.”

They add:

“The other thing that has to be addressed is Mbatha-Raw’s status as a woman of color in Hollywood. It is well known that both women and non-white performers get fewer opportunities than their white male colleagues, and the combination of two aspects that Hollywood usually sees as a negative is undoubtedly affecting Mbatha-Raw’s career prospects. “
