Hal Sparks was born on 25 September 1969. Though born in Cincinnati, Ohio, he grew up in Peaks Mill, Kentucky. At age 14, the family moved to Chicago and he joined New Trier High School which was located in Winnetka, Illinois. He was interested in acting and was part of the theater department of the high school.
His father was not happy with his joining the theater but soon overcame his initial fear for his son. Hal Sparks started doing standup comedy and won the title of Chicago’s Funniest Teenager when he was 17. This was given to him BY Chicago Sun-Times.

Hal was still in high school when he got the opportunity to host the game show Treasure Hunt in 1988. After completing his graduation, Hal made the move to LA and had a decade-long struggle to survive and remain afloat there.

He got a major break when he was asked to host Talk Soup in 1999. In 2008, he released his DVD of comedy called Escape from Halcatraz. He also began to appear on several TV shows such as The View, The Joy Behar Show and the like. He was also on the popular and successful comedy called Sexy Liberal Comedy tour.
He also did innumerable radio shows and used to be a guest on Stephanie Miller Show on the national radio. He used to give his audience three hours of comedy and commentary on Wednesday mornings. He also landed his own show called The Hal Sparks Radio Program.
His first TV film was Frog (1987). He appeared in Lab Rats and several more TV series such as Grey’s Anatomy, Queer as Folk, and Fuller House. He has also been part of some famous competition shows on TV such as Celebrity Duets. He was in the finale of the show and came third in it.
