Dina Torkia is a UK stylist and designer who later also took to vlogging and uploading YouTube videos. Dina is a member of the Hijabi bloggers (a group of Muslim women who are expressing their love for fashion while donning the hijab). She is a Muslim beauty blogger and a modest fashion icon.
Dina’s style and fashion career
Dina Torkia had started chronicling her life on the internet since she was 21 to 22 years old. She commenced her blogging when she was attached to a call center. Dina Torkia had revealed in an interview that blogging about fashion was her way to show the world that even wearing a scarf, one can look stunning and amazing.
She started blogging just as a leisure activity but after few years she managed to take to this profession full-time. Her social media channels are highly popular in the UK. Her YouTube subscribers have reached more than 640k.
Her Facebook likes are also more than 260000. Her Twitter handle has around 660k followers. She also has an active Instagram handle where she posts a number of pictures and it has a fan following of 1.32 million.
A BBC3 documentary film was made centered around her life and it was called as ‘Muslim Miss World’ and featured on the small screen in 2015. This film reveals her life journey and her entry into World Muslimah which is a beauty pageant which is held annually in Indonesia for Muslim women. Her husband Sid calls it as ‘Miss Universe but with hijabs’.

This event has participants coming from Iran, Bangladesh, and Indonesia. Dina Torkia disclosed that meeting women from so many different cultures made her realize and learn about the different ways the hijab can be worn based on culture and not religion.
Dina Torkia has her own website called as ‘Days of Dolls’ and it contains the trendiest clothes against an urban backdrop. She also promotes her own clothing line through this website. She does blogging under the name ‘Tokio’. In her pictures, her clothes range though fashionable is tinged in modesty which is typical of the Islamic dress wears. She keeps a headscarf in all her pictures. Talking about it, Dina Torkia had once said:
“I think of dressing smartly as a way to represent myself and my religion. I don’t understand why you can’t be interested in fashion and be a Muslim.”
Dina Torkia has also teamed up with Liberty to manufacture a range of scarves. Her husband Sid is also a part of her business now.

Dina talks about online hijab community
She has been a blogger for the last 10 years. And last week she shared her thoughts on Insta story!
Referring to the online hate she receives on a daily basis, she said:
“To address my ‘hijabi community starting to become like a toxic cult’ comment. I’m referring to the onslaught of slander and insults I’ve received from a community that I was very much a part of and helped build… all because of my personal decision to basically wear it when I want to.”
She added on:
“I’ve heard people assume I’ve used the headscarf for ‘fame and money’. I started blogging when I was already wearing a scarf. I just wanted to enjoy fashion I could relate to… I’m a whole different person to who I was when I started. People change, and that’s a great thing… it’s called progression.”

Dina Torkia was born on 6th June 1989 in Cairo, Egypt. She is half-Egyptian and half-English and was raised in a place between London and Cardiff. Dina has two brothers who are called Hassan and Yoosuf. She currently resides at Harrow.
Though Dina Torkia had a deep liking for fashion, she did not take up any university course in designing since according to her it would have looked weird that she is wearing a scarf and learning fashion. She felt that she would be the odd women out! She took university courses but dropped out since it did not interest her. This she did three times. Ultimately, in 2011, she commenced her blogging.
