David Muir started his career in 1995 as an anchor and a reporter at WTVH television in Syracuse, New York. He served there until 2000 where he also got the honor from the Radio-Television News Directors Association. He got the honor of the Best Enterprise Reporting and Best Television Interview.
Afterward, he joined WCVB television where he worked till 2003. During his work in WCVB, he won the regional Edward R. Murrow Award for investigative reporting and the National Headliner Award.

After quitting form WCVB, he joined ABC News in August 2003. He joined as anchor of the overnight news program World News Now. In 2006, he got the chance to co-anchor the newsmagazine Primetime. By the February 2012, David became an anchor for the weekend newscasts. The broadcast was named “World News with David Muir”.
Muir got the silent credit for the rise of the ratings of the weekend evening broadcasts. In March 2013, he got the promotion to co-anchor ABC’s 20/20 with Elizabeth Vargas.

David Muir was honored by the New York State Broadcasters Association at the Leadership and Hall of Fame Luncheon in October 2018.
He was awarded the 2018 Broadcaster of the Year by the New York State Broadcasters Association.
He said:
“If we just remember who this newscast is for – it’s for the people across this country in a polarized time. We have to find a way every single night to signal to them that we hear you… that we are doing this job for you. We are asking these questions for you. And I think that they sense that in their gut.”
Again in January 2019, he was honored by Adweek with the title 30 Most Impactful TV Newsers of the Past 15 Years on the occasion of 15th anniversary of TVNewser.
