On 9th of August 1985, JaMarcus Trenell Russell was born in Mobile, Alabama. Jamarcus Russell’s father Bobby Lloyd was a machine operator, while his mother Zina L. Russell-Anderson worked as a secretary at a legal firm.

In Alabama, he went to Lillie B. Williamson High School. He discovered his love for football while practicing with head coach Bobby Parrish and never missed a game. Due to his freshman year performance, he was invited to play in the state championship game.

Russell was getting more comfortable with the playbook and had already received his first recruiting letters. During his second season, he guided the squad to the semifinals while passing for 2,616 yards and 20 touchdowns.

After high school, he attended Louisiana State University (LSU), where he played college football for the LSU Tigers.

College Career

Russell played for the LSU Tigers from 2004 to 2006. As a freshman in 2004, he played in six games and completed 16 of 34 passes for 248 yards and two touchdowns. In 2005, he became the starting quarterback for the Tigers and played in all 12 games, completing 177 of 312 passes for 2,443 yards and 15 touchdowns.

In 2006, Russell’s junior year, he had a standout season. Thereafter, he completed 211 of 366 passes for 3,129 yards and 28 touchdowns, and led the Tigers to the SEC Western Division title and a win in the 2007 Sugar Bowl. The Tigers finished the season with an 11-2 record and were ranked fourth in the final AP Poll. Russell was also a finalist for the Heisman Trophy, given annually to the best player in college football.

JaMarcus Trenell Russell played professional football as a quarterback in the National Football League (NFL). In the 2007 NFL Draft, the Oakland Raiders made him their first-round pick.

Russell played for the Raiders from 2007 to 2009. As a rookie in 2007, he started seven games and completed 58.1% of his passes for 1,412 yards, four touchdowns, and eight interceptions. With a 4-12 record, the Raiders wrapped up the year.

In 2008, Russell started in all 16 games for the Raiders and completed 53.8% of his passes for 2,423 yards, 13 touchdowns, and eight interceptions. The Raiders finished the season with a 5-11 record.

Then In 2009, Russell played in only two games for the Raiders, completing 25% of his passes for 233 yards, no touchdowns, and four interceptions. He was released by the Raiders in May 2010.

After being released by the Raiders, Russell was signed by the Kansas City Chiefs in 2010, but was released before the start of the regular season. He did not play in the NFL again and officially retired in 2013.
