Jolin Tsai was born on September 15, 1980, in Hsinchuang, Taipei, Taiwan. She has several given names. Her Chinese name is 蔡依林, Mandarin name is Cài Yīlín and her Taiwanese name is Tsai I-ling.
Her parent’s name is Tsai Chu-Chen and Huang Chun-Mei. Her mother is half Chinese and half Papora while her father is of Han Chinese descent. Jolin was very much interested in academics from an early age. She attended the Hsinchuang Elementary School where she frequently achieved the top 3 rank. There she was also a 200-meter sprinter but quit after she injured her ankle.
Later Jolin Tsai attended Hsinchuang Junior High School and Chingmei Girls’ High School where she initially began to sing. She had girl’s band in the school but quickly separated.
After high school, she joined the Fu Jen Catholic University where she majored in English Literature.
Jolin, is Taiwanese by nationality and Han Chinese, Papora by ethnicity.

Jolin’s singing career began when she was in high school. As she loved to sing, she frequently performed at the school welcome parties. There she received good comments which further encouraged her.
In 1998, Jolin Tsai had an accidental win in a singing competition which shaped her singing career. She had taken part in MTV singing competition and had bagged the first position. Soon she was a teen idol.
At her university, Jolin signed a recording deal with Universal Music Taiwan. After the deal, Jolin released her single “Living with the World” in July 1999. The same year in September she released her first album 1019. Her album was a hit among teenagers and was recognized throughout Taiwan.
With the release of her second album Don’t Stop in April 2000, she not only gained success but also was recognized in the Greater China. The following years, Jolin had more albums released. These include Show your love, Luckey number, Magic, J- Game, Agent J, Myself, Muse, Play.
She also has acted in several movies such as In Love, Hi Working Girl, Agent J, and Zootopia.

Jolin Tsai has been romantically linked with several famous men. Her first romantic relationship is known to be a Taiwanese singer, Jay Chou in 2001. The two had collaborated in the album Lucky Number and were soon seen on dates in Japan. The couple did not confirm their affair.
But in February 2005, Jolin was seen shopping with Taiwanese news presenter Patty Hou in Shibuya, Japan starting a rumor that they were in a relationship. But later Jolin and Jay reconciled and were together again.
In July 2013, in an interview she said that Jay had cheated on her. She did love him but had to break up with him as it broke her heart and disappointed her.
In January 2007, Jolin was in a relationship with Taiwanese actor Eddie Peng. But as Jolin had arguments with Eddie’s management company, Power Generation, the two parted ways. Power Generation did admit to interrupting and hindering their relationship. Their relationship had lasted 3 years.

This time it was New Zealand model Vivian Dawson who was featured in Jolie’s music video “Love Player”. 3 years into the relationship, Vivian thought it was time to settle so he took her to New Zealand to meet his family.
