Professional NBA Career

Simmons has been playing basketball since high school, and his remarkable statistics have earned him multiple pre-draft workouts with several NBA teams. Despite these possibilities, Simmons went undrafted in the 2012 NBA Draft.

Fortunately, Sugar Land Legends selected him in the first round of the first American Basketball League (ABL) draft in January 2013. Following the event in September of that year, he tried out for the NBA Development League’s Austin Toros and was named to their training camp roster.

When Simmons returned to Austin in 2015, the team’s name had been changed to the Spurs. Jonathon’s game improved that season as a result of the abrupt adjustment, and he scored a career-high.30 points versus the Bakersfield Jam.

As expected, Jonathon contributed to Austin’s victory in the Western Conference Finals. He averaged 15.2 points, 4.3 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 1.0 steals per game in 50 games. Following that, he was named to the NBA D-League All-Defensive third team.

San Antonio Spurs and Orlando Magic

Simmons was named to the Brooklyn Nets Summer League in June 2015 and appeared in three Orlando Summer League games.
