Kelis’ milkshake recipe

American singer Kelis had made the iconic ‘Milkshake’ song in 2003 and for the past 14 years it has been giving us so much of melody and kept us dancing to its tune. In spite of bringing out such a glorious number, Kelis who is also a chef has never revealed to us her secret Milkshake recipe.

On the eve of the National Chocolate Milkshake Day on September 12 Kelis has shared with us her secret milkshake recipe which would ‘draw all the boys to your backyard’. It came out that the secret ingredient of this recipe is ‘Baileys’ though it may be eliminated if one wants the milkshake to be booze-free.

Recipe for the milkshake-

1. Mix 3 oz. Baileys Original Irish cream liqueur, 8 oz. ginger beer, 4 scoops of chocolate ice-cream, 5 pieces of candied ginger, and a half teaspoon of cayenne pepper in a blender with ice. Blend it to a smooth consistency.
2. Dip the rim of a glass in honey and later in chili and cinnamon sugar.
3. Pour the blended milkshake into the specially rimmed glass and top it with ginger-infused whipped cream, and a piece of candied ginger.

A creamy chocolate treat was ready in a few minutes that had a little punch to it. We do trust that this milkshake would be awful and delicious since Kelis is not only a singer but also a trained and professional Chef.

Kelis’ cooking career

Kelis has taken great strides in her singing line. She is active in the field since 1998 and had released 4 albums till 2006 and given the biggest hit ‘Milkshake’ in 2003. However, her fourth album ‘Kelis was there’ in 2006 faced some label disputes. Kelis then decided to take some time off from music. In the meantime, Kelis started her training in cooking.

She joined Le Cordon Bleu culinary school. Kelis’ love for food dates back to her childhood. Her mother had her own catering business and she used to be the chef as well there. She had helped her mother in the kitchen and business and after her training was confident enough to be called a chef and also write her own book.

In 2006, Kelis also wrote and published a cookbook called ‘My Life on a Plate: Recipes From Around The World’ with Lauren Pesavento. It chronicles her travels with food. She incorporated in this book dishes from her Puerto Rican culture and also those that she encountered during her global travels.

In 2009-2010 she restarted her music. In 2013, she started her own sauce line called as ‘Feast’ at the Beverly Hills Food & Wine Festival. In 2015, it was put up for sale under the name ‘Bounty and Full’. Kelis has compared sauce beautifully to what accessories are to a woman’s outfit. In 2014, her show ‘Saucy and Sweet’ commenced on the ‘Cooking Channel’. The same year, Kelis also started a food truck.

Kelis’ relationships

Kelis’s career is on double tracks; music and cooking and at full speed. But what about her personal life? Kelis was in a relationship with TV presenter Jamie Theakston in 2000-2001. She was seen with rapper Pharrell Williams in the year 2001 but the relationship did not last long.

Kelis dated Nasir Jones the hip-hop artist at the 2002 MTV Video Music Awards. They dated for a year and got engaged in 2004. They tied the knot in January 2005. However, in 2009, they had called it quits and filed for divorce in April 2009 citing irreconcilable differences. During her divorce, Kelis was 7 months pregnant and she delivered a baby boy named Knight on July 22, 2009.

She then started dating former American football player Adewale Ogunleye in 2009 and their relationship lasted for two years. She started dating real estate agent Michael or Mike Mora in 2013. The two secretly married in December 2014. The couple welcomed a child called as Shepherd in November 2015.
