Who is Marty Lagina?
Marty Lagina is associated with the show ‘The Curse of Oak Island’ which airs on History Channel. The Lagina brothers have been part of and have taken over one of the world’s longest treasure hunts. Though skeptical of the hidden treasure, Marty nonetheless has joined his elder brother Ricky in their exploration of the truth of the belief that has been passed down the generations and which his brother Rick strongly has faith in.
Marty has his other business ventures as well. But that did not hold him back from following his brother in the quest for treasure and as time has gone back, Marty’s love for the whole affair has only increased. Let us look back at his life and career until the time he has become part of this hunt!
Marty Lagina’s birth and childhood
Marty Lagina was born in Kingsford, Northern Michigan. His exact date of birth is not known but he is younger than his brother Rick who is the other explorer on the team. He has two other sisters who are married into Gardner and Fornetti families. Both are teachers. His parents are George Jacob Lagina and Ann Lagina. The family has Italian roots.
Rick had read in the 1965 issue of Reader’s Digest about the mystery and curse around Oak Island and had a dream to explore it. Their father had also shown them an article on Oak Island when they were young.
As regards his education, it is known that Marty is a graduate of Mechanical Engineering and had completed it in 1977 from Michigan Tech. He also completed his degree in law from the University of Michigan in 1982.

Marty Lagina’s professional life
While pursuing law study, Marty Lagina also started his oil and gas company called Terra Energy. His company specializes in natural gas extraction. It is said that he sold the company in 1995 to CMS for $ 58 million. He became a major shareholder in Chartwell Properties and started the Heritage Sustainable Energy which is specialized in wind turbines.
He owns the Villa Mari Vineyard situated in Traverse City, Michigan. He loves red wine and his son Alex says:
“…always have a barrel of wine in the basement. Dad likes to say wine is in his blood.”
They purchased a major part of Oak Island and started a tour company there. They take guests and visitors on trips to the island. There is a small museum there which showcases the finds of their searches till now. Photography is not allowed in this museum.
The brothers also formed a team comprising of engineers and archaeologists who started exploring the area for treasure. They are mainly focusing their time and energy on the three places where it is suspected that the wealth is hidden.

They have also started the show on History Channel called ‘The Curse of Oak Island’ where they discuss their explorations and other details of the island. The brothers had to be coaxed to do the show.
Regarding the financing of the treasure hunt, Marty had said in 2015:
“We’re financing it. That’s basically where the money is coming from — us.”
Regarding the outcome of their hunt, Marty said:
“I’d like to say as long as it takes but one has to be realistic and at some point if we don’t feel we can make progress, we’ll hand the mystery to someone else.”
Marty Lagina’s personal life, marriage, wife, and children
Marty Lagina is a married man. His wife’s name is M. Olivia Lagina. She too is a mechanical engineer from Michigan. The couple has two children; Alex (who is in the exploration along with his dad and uncle) and Maddie. The family resides in Traverse, Michigan.
