The young actor, Leo McKern was born on March 16, 1920, in Sydney, New South Wales. In 2002, he entered a nursing home near Bath, Somerset, where he died a few weeks later at the age of 82, after suffering from poor health in his final years. Bath’s Haycombe Cemetery was where his ashes were scattered.

He is most known for his roles as Paddy Button in The Blue Lagoon (1980), Dr. Grogan in The French Lieutenant’s Woman (1981), Father Imperius in Ladyhawke (1985), and Horace Rumpole in the British television series Rumpole of the Bailey (1985). He played Carl Bugenhagen in the first and second parts of The Omen series.
In the 1950s, he made his debut appearance on television in the black-and-white series The Adventures of Robin Hood. In the 1960s, he was one of several Number Twos in the groundbreaking and critically renowned television series The Prisoner.
The Australian actor wrote the radio play Chain of Events, which was converted into a film (1958). In 1992 and 1993, he again played Captain Haddock in the BBC Radio adaptations of Hergé’s The Adventures of Tintin. In a series of Lloyds Bank commercials that aired on British television in the 1990s, McKern played a figure who resembled Rumpole.
