Who is Denver Broncos?

Pat Bowlen or Patrick Dennis Bowlen is the majority owner of the NFL team named Denver Broncos. The team was purchased by the Bowlen family in 1984 and Pat was the CEO of the team until July 2014 when he had to step down due to health concerns.

Pat Bowlen-the early years

Pat Bowlen was born on 18 February 1944 in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin. His mother was Arvella Woods and his father was Paul who had a prosperous Canadian oil business. He had two brothers-John and Bill and 1 sister named Marybeth.

Pat studied at Campion Jesuit Catholic High School and in 1965 earned a degree in business. He studied law as well and obtained a degree in it in 1968. This degree he earned from the University of Oklahoma.

Pat-his law practice

Pat was a lawyer by profession and had a successful practice. His office was in Edmonton, Alberta. During the time that he was in practice as a lawyer, Pat also worked in an executive post in his father’s company. He was also a real estate developer and did major investments in the mining industry.

The purchase of the Denver Broncos

In 1984, the Bowlen siblings (Pat, John, Bill, and Marybeth) purchased Denver Broncos. Pat was not only the principal owner but also the Chief Executive Officer of the team from 1984 to 2014. Between 1999 to 2008 there were some legal issues between the Bowlen family and its one-time owner Edgar Kaiser.

The Colorado Crush part ownership

Pat also partly owned the Colorado Crush team of the Arena football league from 2003 to 2008. The team’s other owners were Stan Kroenke and John Elway. This team won the Arena Football League Championship in 2005. Pat gave up this ownership in 2008.

In 2006, Denver Outlaws was added to the Major League Lacrosse. This was one of the most winning franchises that Pat has ever owned. They won the championship in 2014 and 2016 and had been in the championship 6 times namely in 2006, 2008, 2009, 2014, 2016, and 2017).

Pat’s awards and honors

Pat has been honored several times and his presence and motivation for his team have been highly appreciated and awarded. He has also been given the Colorado Hall of Fame in business.

His health problems

In July 2014, Pat stepped down as the CEO of the Denver Broncos due to his Alzheimer’s disease. His wife Annabel Bowlen took over the reign of the company in her hands to help her husband.

The two met and liking each other started dating. The wedding was somewhere in 1983 and 1984 after which the couple moved from Edmonton to Colorado.
