John David Washington was born on 28 July 1984 in Toluca Lake neighborhood of Los Angeles, CA. He is now 33 years of age. His parents are both in the entertainment field. His father is Denzel Washington while his mother is the famous actress Pauletta Washington. He has a brother called Malcolm and 2 sisters called Katia and Olivia.
John has studied at Campbell Hall School situated in Los Angeles and graduated from here in 2002. He was good at sports at school and used to play football, basketball, and track. He later joined Morehouse College and played college football during his time there.

During his college, John David set several school records in football. He was named the National Player of the Week in 2005 by D2Football.com.
He went undrafted in the 2006 NFL draft. On 1 May 2006, he joined St. Louis Rams as an undrafted free agent. He was released on 31 August the same year. In the 2007 offseason, John David played for the Rhein Fire in the NFL Europa.
In 2009, John got drafted by the California Redwoods of the United Football League. On 18 August 2009, he signed with this UFL team. He was with the team until 2012 and could not continue further since the League ended in October 2012.

John David has been doing some roles in the films since his childhood. In 1992, he appeared in a small role in the film Malcolm X. He was cast in the brief role of a student in the Harlem classroom. Later in 2017, John David starred as Mahlik in Love Beats Rhymes. In 2018, he plays Dennis Williams in Monsters and Men, Richard ‘Bobo’ Evans in Monster.
He will also be seen in BlackkKiansman and The Old Man and the Gun which are films that have been completed.
Since 2015, John David is acting in the TV series on HBO called Ballers. He is cast as Ricky Jerret and it is this role which has got him fame.
