Malin was born on May 12, 1978, in Stockholm, Sweden. Her birth name is Malin Maria Åkerman. She is currently 40 years old. Her mother’s name is Pia Sundstrom and her father’s name is Magnus Akerman. Her mother is an aerobics teacher and part-time model while her father is an insurance broker. Magnus was offered a job in Canada when Malin was 2 years old and the family shifted to Canada and settled there.
After four years of moving to Canada, her parents got divorced and her father returned to Sweden. Her mother re-married and she got two half-sisters and a brother. She stayed with her mother and was raised in Canada.
She said,
“Every time I’m in Canada I feel more Swedish, and every time I’m in Sweden I feel more Canadian. I belong in both places and I love them both equally.”
She attended Sir Winston Churchill Secondary School and later joined a Catholic School. She joined North Toronto Collegiate Institue in her OAC year and later enrolled in York University to become a child psychologist.

She began her career as a model and she was introduced by her mother when she was at her primary level. She modeled for different advertising campaigns but she left when she was 12 years old.
She was discovered by the Ford Models at the age of 16 while she was shopping in a mall and she signed the agency. After a year, she won Ford’s Supermodel of Canada. Then, she made a contract with skincare company Noxzema and she was offered several guest roles on the television.
She was seen in nude scenes in films like ‘The Heartbreak Kid’ and ‘Watchman’. She said she feels comfortable as long as the scenes are not gratuitous.

“I spent a lot of time as a child in Sweden; it’s natural there … I don’t know many women who go to bed with their husband at night and have sex with a bra on … So let’s make it real in the movies.”
She found her acting job very fun and she became interested. Then, she dropped out of school to become an actress and made her way to LA in 2011.
She debuted her role on the Canadian science fiction series ‘Earth: Final Conflict’ in 1987 in which she portrayed the role of a robot. Later, she made her appearance as a guest role in the television series and films. She co-lead the horror-comedy ‘The Final Girls’ in 2015.
