Marie Harf was born on 15 June 1981 in Chicago, Illinois, the USA. Her current age is 37. She is the daughter of Jane Ax Harf and James E. Harf. Her father was the associate vice president and the director of the Center for Global Education at Maryville University in St. Louis. He also served as professor emeritus of political science at Ohio State University in Columbus.
Her mother Jane was the director of the University Clean Energy Alliance of Ohio, a statewide organization in Columbus that supports clean energy research. She was raised in Granville, Ohio predominantly and graduated from the Granville High School in 1999. She was good at sports and was striving for a basketball scholarship.
Marie Harf later joined Indiana University Bloomington and obtained a BA in Political Science. She had concentrations in Jewish Studies and Russian and Eastern European Studies. She did further studies and earned a Masters in Foreign Affairs from the University of Virginia. Her thesis work was on the prospects for continued regime stability in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Marie Harf initially worked as an analyst at the Directorate of Intelligence at the CIA. Her focus was on Middle Eastern Leadership issues. Later on, she took up the post of a spokesperson for the CIA.
During the 2012 US Presidential Elections, Marie Harf played a major role in the national security and communications strategy for Barack Obama. She also served as the campaign spokesperson on issues of national security. From June 2102, she worked as the Deputy to Jen Psaki for the Department of State.
