Who is Matt Terry?
Matt Terry is the English singer who won the hearts of viewers worldwide when he won the 13th season of X-Factor (UK Series) in December 2016. Montana Brown has released a single and an album since then and is also featured in various videos of other artists.
Matt Terry had landed into a lot of controversies post-fame. He has also been forced to apologize to his furious parents and thus his life is thrown into the limelight and has been going through a lot of ups and downs.

His win on X-Factor
Matt Terry had been dumped by his girlfriend of three years. Dancer Jasmine Avis felt that he was holding her back. He was working as a waiter when he decided to participate in the talent show ‘X Factor’. He was put in the Boys category under mentor Nicole Scherzinger. His performance was consistent except one when he was in the bottom 2. He won the finale of the show with votes of 6 out of 10.
His relations with Judge Nicole
When it was declared that Matt Terry had won the show, his mentor Nicole could not control her happiness and she immediately jumped into the arms of Matt and straddled him. The Judges and audience were a bit uncomfortable show of affection between the two. People suspected that the two were having some affair.
But Matt and Nicole had put the records straight. Matt said:
“Since day one she’s been there with open arms, and she’s made me feel like I can go to her with anything I need if I have any concerns, and she’s just like ‘I’m your big sister’, and that for me is so refreshing to have that.”
His kiss with Freddie Parker
Fans also suspected his sexuality after they felt that he has shared a kiss with fellow X Factor star Freddie Parker. Matt emphasized that he was heterosexual and interested in dating only women.
He told Daily Star:
“As far as I’m concerned, I am a heterosexual man – but I will keep fans up to date with my personal life and who I am dating. They will be the first to know.”
His misbehavior incidents
Matt Terry was part of the X Factor tour. It was reported that he used to come late and also be in a hangover phase many times. Three months after the win, Matt had shocked bystanders and made parents angry when he created a scene outside a family pub.
He was in a drunk state and was ranting and saying C-words. The parents went online to talk about this indecent behavior. Matt’s parents were also utterly disappointed and furious and he had to apologize to them.
His career after the win
Matt Terry released his first single called ‘When Christmas Comes Around’ in December 2016. His single was appreciated and it stood at position 3 on UK music charts. This original song was written by Ed Sheeran. He signed with RCA Records and announced his debut album called Trouble when he released his single titled ‘Sucker For You’.
He also took part in Celebrity First Dates which was a Stand Up for Cancer special. His debut album was released in November 2017 but unfortunately, within a week, it was said that it was the worst-performing one from a winner of X-Factor.
It came on position 29 of UK charts. Of course, Matt was disappointed. They had hoped for a position in Top 10 but unable to feature in the top 25 was a matter of concern. Matt’s team’s feeling was that there were enough good tunes on the album.
Matt had stayed with his grandparents in Spain for 8 years and hence knew Spanish. Hence Enrique Iglesias invited him to feature in his ‘Súbeme La Radio (Remix)’. He was also cast in ‘Bridge over Troubled Waters’.
His Relationships and personal life
Matt Terry was born on 20 May 1993 in Bromley, England. His parents are Bob and Sharon Terry and he has two brothers. He had studied at D&B Academy of Performing Arts in Kent. Matt had met Love Island’s Montana Brown in the summer of 2017 and was smitten by her.
They started hanging out together. According to Matt, they are going slow in their relationship. Matt said:
“This one [is true], we are hanging out and getting to know each other. We’ve met each other a couple of times. She came and supported me on the show which was really nice. We get on really well. I am going with the flow so let’s see.”
However, Montana’s side has refused any such association. She recently has split from Love Island boyfriend Alex Beattie due to distance problems.
