Sibylle Szaggars’s artwork
Sibylle has dedicated her life to creating varied forms of art regarding the connection that exists between life, nature, land, and the world. By so doing, she is trying to make people and the world aware of the environmentally unsound practices. She seeks inspiration from things around her and these include Mother Nature and ancient cultures (Hopi or Moroccan). She has recently also derived inspiration from the Monsoon rains of the New Mexican High Desert.
Sibylle has done exhibitions of her artwork throughout Europe and particularly in England, Germany, Italy, Monaco, France, Peru, Japan, Singapore, and also in the USA. She has also collaborated with other musicians and choreographers for it.
Her first collaboration was with the famous cellist Nina Kotova and it was a large oil painting series termed ‘Shape of Color’. This was presented at the International Classical Music Festival in Italy at Cortona and also in Singapore in 2008.
In 2010, Sibylle got attracted to the subject of the monsoon rain and started creating her Rainfall series. Sibylle does the paper with her abstract watercolor pigment compositions. She then takes these to the New Mexican High Desert and puts her work under the rains there. Her fascination for this work was put into a film on rain painting art and Icelandic musician cum composer David Thor Jonsson gave music for this film.
Sibylle has also done stage performances on this concept. This she called The Way of the Rain and performed it at the Highland Theatre in Albuquerque, New Mexico in 2013. She collaborated with a bunch of other artists and her husband (Robert Redford) and did the show in Miami as well. She was also invited to perform at the Sundance Film Festival in 2015.
She and Robert formed the Way of the Rain, Inc, in New Mexico as an NGO in which the money from the performances was put and used for environmental protection and education.
