Who is Kate Connelly?

Kate Connelly is a TV host who is better known as the ex-wife of American celebrated celebrity chef, Bobby Flay.

Kate Connelly was born in the year 1964 in the USA. No details seem to have been revealed about her parents and siblings if any. It is not known which school she attended. But she was at St. Michael’s College. She has not mentioned or talked about her birth family and childhood.

Kate Connelly was working as the co-host of ‘Robin Leach Talking Food’ which used to air on Food Network Television. It was a quirky live show that ended in 1995. Bobby Flay had come on her show as a guest. He was 30 years old at that time while Kate was 31. He was a chef of Bolo and Mesa Grill Restaurant in Manhattan at that time.

Bobby had separated from his first wife Debra Ponzek in 1993 and was leading the life of a bachelor when he met Kate. Kate was an unmarried mother and had a son named Jonathan. They were instantly attracted to each other. Mr. Leach talked about this meeting. He said:

“For both, there was an instant attraction, yet instant danger signals. She was warned that he was a real bachelor, and he realized he met the woman he was going to give up bachelorhood for.”

She was invited by Bobby for a dinner date at Monkey Bar and soon began a relationship. Kate Connelly left a note for her babysitter that she would be away for 2 hours. But she recalled:

“I got home four and a half hours later. I’ve never had such a good time in my life on a date, ever, ever, ever. I don’t remember what I ate. There was always something to talk about. He was funny. It was the easiest thing in the world.”

A few months later, the two were engaged. The proposal was a casual one and Bobby handed her an engagement ring as lightly as he was handing her a cocktail. The marriage was conducted at the Bolo on 1 October 1995. There were 90 plus guests.

The wedding feast was replete with colorful Spanish-inspired and Southwestern dishes from the restaurant’s menus. When Bobby Flay was asked about his feelings on becoming a husband as well as a stepfather, he replied:

“It’s a complicated situation and the odds are against us, but that’s what’s great about it. If there’s no challenge, why do it?”

The couple had a happy 3 years of marriage. Their daughter Sophie Flay was born on 16 April 1996. Sophie is currently 22 years old and a student at the University of Southern California.

Unfortunately, the marriage was not to last and the couple split in 1998. The couple shared the custody of Sophie and Bobby Flay was a good father to his daughter Sophie. They seem to have a good relationship with Sophie as Bobby wished his daughter a happy 22nd birthday.

Later, they married on February 20, 2005. 10 years later, Flay filed for divorce in March 2015. Their divorce was said to be due to his 3-year affair with his assistant Elyse Tirrell.

Kate Connelly was working as a co-host of the TVFN’s show called ‘Robin Leach Talking Food’. It used to invite guests from various areas of life to the show and interview them. The show aired on TVFN but in 1995 was discontinued.

However, there were reruns of the show on the same or other channels. Kate used to often cook on the show. But she would often make a mess during the preparation and cooking phase.

“You name it, I did it wrong. Once, I didn’t put the top on the blender and turned it on — live. Everything splattered all over the place — all over me, all over the kitchen — and you can’t stop. You just have to go, ‘Ha-ha-ha,’ wipe your face and keep going.”

Continuing her career, she has her restaurants in New York and manages them.
