Ida Ljungqvist is one such model who came from Tanzania and became the first African-born lady to become the Playboy Playmate of the year in 2009.

Ida Ljungqvist’s birth and childhood

Ida Ljungqvist was born in Tanzania on 27 September 1981. She is 36 years of age now and has a mixed ethnicity. Her mother was Tanzanian while her father had Swedish roots. Her mother was in the nursing profession.

Her father used to work with the UNICEF and due to his work, Ida and her family were able to travel a lot around the globe. Due to this, she could also master multiple languages and hence knows English, Swedish language as well as Swahili.

No data related to her siblings have been found. She has earned a degree in fashion designing and marketing from Regent’s Business School in London. She was also planning on doing studies in economics, it is said.  Her entry into the world of modeling was by chance and she had never thought that one day she would become a famous model.

The interesting discovery and start of her career

Ida had never dreamt of becoming a model when she grows up. But she was spotted by American model cum actress cum TV host Sara Underwood who recognized Id’s potential and believed that she could make a good Playboy material.

Sara had seen Ida near the Bebe clothing store at Rodeo Drive, Beverly Hills, CA. Sara was shopping there while Ida was working as a sales specialist at the boutique.

Sara offered her to pose for Playboy magazine. Though initially stupefied by this sudden and fantastic offer, Ida fell for it and posed for the said magazine. She was selected by the magazine to be its Playmate for the month of March 2008 issue. She was the first African-born woman to be chosen for this role. Ida at that time said:

“My sexiest quality is that I have a very adventurous spirit. I am willing to try anything at least once”

She soon caught the attention of the world and for the year 2009, she was chosen as the Playboy Playmate of the year. It was an honor for her and she was the second Swedish model to procure this title. She also received a large sum of money and gifts in kind for this modeling.

She was the first model to dedicate her title to the charity. The nature of her parents’ job made her a compassionate and good human being. She has also done nude modeling and appeared in Playboy videos. She is also associated with a number of charitable organizations.

She has worked in TV series such as ‘The Girls Next Door’ and was seen in ‘Last Call with Carson Daly’. In 2009, she was the co-host of the Miami-held New Year’s Eve Party of the Playboy magazine.

Her dreams to work as a fashion designer is still alive and she had mentioned that she would like to take up that profession later on.

Ida’s relationship history

Ida was married to Joshua R. Lang in the month of December of 2007. But within a year in September 2008, Lang filed in his divorce papers and there was a custody battle over their pet Chihuahua. Doug was said to be close to Ida afterward.

Doug’s ex-wife Katrina Kantner sued Ida in May 2009 stating that Doug’s expensive gifts to Ida had robbed her child of his due child support money.

In 2012, it has been reported that Ida is dating glamour model Kristina Shannon. The lesbian couple had met in 2008 when Kristina was dating Hugh Hefner.

She is not very active on social media. She does not have an official Facebook or Instagram account. She does have a Twitter account with 18.4k followers but has not posted since September 2014.
